Mark Stewart (footballer)
Mark Stewart (born 22 June 1988) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker. A youth player at Celtic and Partick Thistle, he has played for Falkirk, Bradford City, Dundee, Kilmarnock, Derry City, Raith Rovers, Dumbarton, Stirling Albion, Stranraer and Hamilton Academical. Career Falkirk Born in Glasgow, Stewart played youth football with Celtic and Partick Thistle, and spent his early senior career with Falkirk, where he started his professional football career. In the 2006–07 season, Stewart made one appearance as a substitute in Falkirk's 5–0 Scottish League Cup victory over Cowdenbeath, scoring within two minutes of his professional debut. Ahead of the 2007–08 season, Stewart, along with Brian Allison, Scott Arfield and Chris Mitchell impressed manager John Hughes in a pre-season friendly. The Scottish League Cup (also known as the Viaplay Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a football competition open to all Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) clubs. First held in 1946–47, it is the oldest national League Cup in existence. The competition had a straight knockout format but became a group and knockout competition from 2016–17. Rangers are the record holders of the cup, winning 27 times. Celtic are the holders, winning their 20th title after beating Hibernian 2–1 at Hampden Park on 19 December 2021. Carl Finnigan (born 1 October 1986) is an English Association football, footballer and plays for Dunston UTS F.C., Dunston UTS. He has played for teams in Botswana, England, Scotland and South Africa during his career. Career Finnigan was born in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear. The Scottish Football League Third Division was the fourth tier of the Scottish football league system between 1994 and 2013. History The Scottish football league system had operated with three divisions in the Scottish Football League (SFL) from 1975. In 1994, as part of reconstruction to allow the admission of Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County to the league, the SFL was recalibrated to give four divisions of 10 teams. The fourth tier was named the Third Division. In 1998, the Premier Division (top flight) clubs broke away to form the Scottish Premier League (SPL). The Third Division continued as the fourth tier of the league system, but was now the third tier of the SFL. In 2013, the SFL and SPL merged to form the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). John Hughes (footballer Born 1964)
John "Yogi" Hughes (born 9 September 1964) is a Scottish professional football coach and former player. Hughes played primarily as a central defender for several clubs, including Falkirk (two spells), Celtic, Hibernian and Ayr United. Towards the end of his playing career, Hughes took on coaching responsibilities, and was appointed manager of Falkirk in 2003 (initially as co-manager with Owen Coyle). Hughes guided the club to promotion to the Scottish Premier League and a Scottish Cup Final during his time in charge. He eventually left Falkirk to take up the managerial role at Hibernian in 2009, but left by mutual consent after sixteen months. Hughes was appointed manager of Livingston in February 2012, but left in November to take over at English club Hartlepool United. Chris Mitchell (footballer Born 1988)
Christopher Philip Mitchell (21 July 1988 – 7 May 2016) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a defender or midfielder. Mitchell began his senior career at Scottish Premier League club Falkirk who also loaned him to Ayr United. He then had a season in England with Bradford City before joining Queen of the South in 2012. In his first season at Queens he won the Scottish Challenge Cup and Scottish Football League Second Division. At the end of that season he was named in the division's PFA Scotland Team of the Year. Mitchell had a brief spell at Clyde in 2015–16. Complications from spinal surgery ended his professional career at Queen of the South, and he left Clyde to establish a new career. Mitchell suffered depression due to his change of career and killed himself at a level crossing at the age of 27. Scott Arfield
Scott Harry Nathaniel Arfield (born 1 November 1988) is a professional association footballer who plays as a midfielder for Scottish Premiership club Rangers. He began his career at Falkirk before moving to the English leagues for eight years with Huddersfield Town and Burnley. Born and raised in Scotland, Arfield represented his nation of birth at international youth levels before switching to Canada in 2016. Club career Falkirk Arfield came up through the Falkirk Youth Academy and earned promotion to the first team squad.
