Mark Cher Reed, Ed.D. is the 25th president of Loyola University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to his tenure at Loyola, Reed served as the first lay president of St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Early life and education Reed is a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania and a 1992 graduate of the St. Joseph's Preparatory School. He earned a B.S. in mathematics from Fairfield University in 1996, where he was elected student-body president and received the Loyola Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the university. Mark Reed (baseball)
Mark Garland Reed (born April 13, 1986) is an American former professional baseball player and a current hitting coach for the Reno Aces, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Career Reed was originally drafted in the third round (96th overall) in the 2004 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs out of Bonita High School. Scouts originally compared Reed to Mike Lieberthal. Reed used an open stance and an aggressive approach at plate, which, when combined with his quick bat, led to hard contact. His older brother, Jeremy Reed, played in the Chicago White Sox organization. After the 2011 season, Reed decided to test the minor league free agent market and joined the Diamondbacks A-Ball affiliate. A hand injury and crowded depth chart at the catcher position slowed things down once again. Mark Reed (physicist)
Mark Arthur Reed (January 4, 1955 - May 5, 2021) was an American physicist and professor at Yale University. He coined the term quantum dots, for demonstrating the first zero-dimensional electronic device that had fully quantized energy states. Reed did research in electronic transport in nanoscale and mesoscopic systems, artificially structured materials and devices, molecular electronics, biosensors and bioelectronic systems, and nanofluidics. He was the author of more than 200 publications, had given over 75 plenary and over 400 invited talks, and held 33 U.S. and foreign patents on quantum effect, heterojunction, and molecular devices.  He was the Editor in Chief of the journal ''Nanotechnology'' (2009-2019) and of the journal ''Nano Futures'', and held numerous other editorial and advisory board positions. Mark Reed (born 23 March 1971) is a British sculptor based in East Anglia, in the United Kingdom. Reed works primarily in metals, using bronze, mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium. According to Reed, his themes include "nature and his place within it, science, the environment, family and the passage of time." Biography Born in Colchester, Reed spent his early years in Suffolk, relocating with his family to a fruit farm in rural Norfolk in his teens. The trees in the orchards he once pruned and shaped were inspiration for much of Reed's sculpture and furniture. Reed initially designed nature-inspired furniture, casting all of his bronze sculptures himself in studio. Reed is known for his tree sculptures in forged steel, the individual branches heated in the forge and then tapered on the anvil, giving the appearance of a "fluid shape of the tree beginning to 'grow'".
