Mark Ranby
Richard Mark Ranby (born 1 June 1977) is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A midfield back, Ranby represented Manawatu, the Central Vikings and Waikato at a provincial level, and the Hurricanes and the Chiefs in Super Rugby. He played one international for the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, against Samoa in 2001. He played for the Japanese side Coca-Cola West Red Sparks for two seasons from 2006. He spent a year studying at the University of Cambridge in 2008–09, completing a Diploma in Theology and Religious Studies, and played for Cambridge against Oxford in the 2008 Varsity Match. In 2012 he was appointed professional development manager for the Crusaders and Canterbury Rugby. Ranby's mother, Margaret Kouvelis Margaret Joy Kouvelis (born 1949) is a New Zealand local-body politician. She was the 5th Mayor of Manawatu, holding the position from 2012 to 2016. Putāruru
Putāruru is a small town in the South Waikato District and the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It lies on the western side of the Mamaku Ranges and in the upper basin of the Waihou River. It is on the Oraka Stream 65 kilometres south-east of Hamilton. State Highway 1 and the Kinleith Branch railway run through the town. Name The town gets its name from a historic event which occurred nearby. Korekore a granddaughter of Raukawa, the founder of the Ngāti Raukawa iwi, was murdered by her husband Parahore. Her servant Ruru witnessed her murder and escaped into the forest where he hid and waited for Parahore and his men to give up their pursuit of him. The Mayor of Manawatu officiates over the Manawatu District of New Zealand. Helen Worboys is the current mayor of Manawatu. She was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2019. History Manawatu District was formed through the amalgamation of the former Feilding Borough, Kiwitea County, Manawatu District, Oroua County and Pohangina County Councils in the 1989 local government reforms. The first mayor was Caryll Lydia Mary Clausen, who had previously been on the Feilding Borough Council. Clausen was re-elected in the 1992 local elections and retired for the 1995 elections. In the 1995 Birthday Honours, Clausen was awarded an MBE for services to local body and community affairs.
