Mark Morrison (rugby)
Mark Coxon Morrison (2 April 1877 – 10 May 1945) was a Scottish international rugby union footballer who captained both Scotland and the British and Irish Lions. Rugby Union career Amateur career Morrison played for Royal HSFP. He played two games for Leicester, one in 1898 and one in 1902. Provincial career Morrison played for Edinburgh District and played in the Inter-City matches against Glasgow District. International career He played for Scotland twenty three times between 1896 and 1904, and captained the team fifteen times, a record which stood until the era of Arthur Smith, sixty years later.Bath, p150 He first played for Scotland against Wales in 1896, while a teenager playing for Royal HSFP. He continued to play for Scotland until 1904, and captained them a total of 15 times. With Scotland he won three Home Nations Championship with them in 1901, 1903 and 1904. Dalmeny
Dalmeny ( gd, Dùn Mheinidh, IPA: t̪uːnˈvenɪʝ is a village and civil parish in Scotland. It is located on the south side of the Firth of Forth, southeast of South Queensferry and west of Edinburgh city centre. It lies within the traditional boundaries of West Lothian, and falls under the local governance of the City of Edinburgh Council. Name history "Dal" is a common prefix in south-east Scotland and north-west England and comes from the Cumbric word meaning meadow. Dal-managh, the likely root, would mean "monk's meadow". The 13th century form of the name, ''Dunmanyn'' (later ''Dunmanie'' and then ''Damenie'', hence the modern form), indicates that the first element is Britonnic ''din'' a fort or Gaelic ''dun'', a hill. There is no evidence of a fort and the topography is such that Dalmeny sits on a low hill. 1903 British Lions Tour To South Africa
The 1903 British Isles tour to South Africa was the fifth tour by a British Isles rugby team and the third to South Africa. It is retrospectively classed as one of the British Lions tours, as the Lions naming convention was not adopted until 1950. Led by Scotland's Mark Morrison and managed by Johnny Hammond the tour took in 22 matches. Of the games three were test matches, played against the South Africa national rugby union team. The British Isles drew the first two test matches and lost the final encounter. Having lost only one game out of 40 matches in the previous two tours of South Africa, the British Isles team were truly tested by the South African rugby nation on this tour. Of the 22 games played, the tourist won eleven, drew three and lost eight. Unlike past teams, the British Isles three-quarter line was not seen as the team's strongest asset and more reliance was placed in the pack.
