Mark Lewis Taylor
Mark Lewis Taylor (born February 3, 1951) is Maxwell M. Upson Professor of Theology and Culture at Princeton Theological Seminary. His major interests are in the political philosophy of religious practices and theological discourse, particularly in Christian communities and also broader social movements. He served as Chair of the Religion & Society Committee at Princeton Seminary. Taylor received the Best General Interest Book Award for his earlier book, ''The Executed God: The Way of the Cross in Lockdown America'' (2001). Maxwell Upson
Maxwell Mayhew Upson was a member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees for over 35 years. Upson graduated in 1899 from Cornell with a bachelor's degree in engineering. Upson was elected to the Sphinx Head Society as a senior. He was awarded the Edward Longstreth Medal from the Franklin Institute in 1940. At the bequest of his widow, Upson is the namesake of Upson Hall on the Cornell campus. The building originally cost $1,988,083 and was designed by the architects Perkins and Will of Chicago and was finished in 1958. The building houses the Departments of Computer Science and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Mumia Abu-Jamal
Mumia Abu-Jamal (born Wesley Cook; April 24, 1954) is an American political activist and journalist who was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1982 for the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. While on death row, he has written and commented on the criminal justice system in the United States. After numerous appeals, his death penalty sentence was overturned by a federal court. In 2011, the prosecution agreed to a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. He entered the general prison population early the following year. Beginning at the age of 14 in 1968, Abu-Jamal became involved with the Black Panther Party and was a member until October 1970, leaving the party at age 16. After leaving, he completed his high school education, and later became a radio reporter. He eventually served as president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (1978–1980).
