Mark Knippenberg
Mark Knippenberg (born 5 July 1967) serves as Chief Executive Officer of the World Scout Foundation since 2021. Knippenberg was the director at Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) from November 2005 until late 2010. After that he assumed the role of Deputy Director of the World Scout Foundation from 2010 to 2021, before becoming CEO. Career Knippenberg first worked at KISC as Deputy Director for Guest Services in 2001 to 2003 when he then took on the role of Deputy Director for Internal Services until 2005. He briefly left the centre to work as Director of Adult Resources at the World Scout Bureau before returning in November 2005 to become Director. One of the major projects he was involved in as director at KISC was the creation of the KanderLodge building in 2008/09. World Scout Foundation
The World Scout Foundation (WSF) is an international, non-profit institution based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its mission is to develop World Scouting by the provision of financial and other support through the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Scouting is a pastime for young people typically organized in local units that emphasizes outdoor activities, self-discipline and civic engagement. The WSF was founded in 1969 but reorganized in the current form in 1977. The Honorary President is HM Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden who actively participates in the activities of the foundation. The organisation is headed by Chairman Hector Robledo Cervantes and Director John Geoghegan. The WSF is permanently investing capital donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, governments and from members of the Scout Movement. Kandersteg International Scout Centre
The Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) is an international Scout centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland. The centre provides lodges, chalets and campsites covering 17 hectares of land. It is open to Scouts year round, as well as to non-Scouts for most of the year. More than 15,000 young people from over 50 countries visit the centre every year.. KISC is the World Organization of the Scout Movement's (WOSM) World Scout Centre. History In 1921 the Chief Scout of Switzerland, Walther von Bonstetten, visited Kandersteg on holiday and found an old empty chalet. It was built in 1908 to house the construction workers for the Lötschberg Tunnel. In 1913, when the tunnel was finished, the chalet was left unused by the railway company. Von Bonstetten felt that this location could be the permanent international meeting place that Robert Baden-Powell had in mind where Scouts from all over the world could meet. World Scout Bureau
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Royal Netherlands Navy
The Royal Netherlands Navy ( nl, Koninklijke Marine, links=no) is the naval force of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the 17th century, the navy of the Dutch Republic (1581–1795) was one of the most powerful naval forces in the world and played an active role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Franco-Dutch War, and wars against Spain and several other European powers. Scouting And Guiding In Switzerland
Scouting and Guiding in Switzerland is made up of numerous scouting and guiding bodies which act to provide the opportunities to scout. This could be though Swiss national Scouting and Guiding organizations, through independent troops (attached to the German Scout organization) or through international troops established in Switzerland. While the latter two are similar, there is a fundamental difference because the three independent groups while taking guidance under different national regimes it is a program developed by people in the various cities, where the presence of international groups in Switzerland is a top down targeted programs that have been developed to offer expatriates scouting and guiding in the language they are used to (mostly English) and are developed in areas with a larger expatriate community.
