Mark Johnson (curler)
Mark Johnson (born September 6, 1958, in Walla Walla, Washington) is an American-Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. He is a former World Senior Curling Champion. Career Johnson has curled competitively in both Canada and the United States. In the mid-2000s, he skipped one of the top teams in Alberta. In 2006, he lost to Kevin Martin in the provincial final. He was asked by Martin to play as the team's alternate at the 2006 Tim Hortons Brier, in which Johnson played two games. In 2009, Johnson skipped a Seattle-based team at the 2010 United States Olympic Curling Trials. The team placed 4–5. On turning 50, Johnson became a senior aged curler, and played in his first Canadian Senior Curling Championships in 2010. His Alberta team defeated Ontario in the final. Walla Walla is a city in Walla Walla County, Washington, where it is the largest city and county seat. It had a population of 34,060 at the 2020 census, estimated to have decreased to 33,927 as of 2021. 2010 United States Olympic Curling Trials
The 2009 United States Olympic Curling Team Trials were held from February 21 to 28, 2009 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Trials have been held ever since curling returned to the Olympics as a demonstration sport in 1988. The trials also constituted the 2009 United States National Curling Championships. The winning men's and women's teams represented the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2009 men's and women's World Championship. Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The Canadian Senior Curling Championships are an annual bonspiel held to determine the national champions in senior curling for Canada. Seniors are defined as being people over the age of 50. The championship teams play at the World Senior Curling Championships the following year. The event's first committee was established in October 1964. Frank Sargent was an original member of the senior championship committee, and believed the event would attract former Brier competitors and give seniors a place to compete which had not existed. The inaugural Canadian Seniors Curling Championship was hosted in Port Arthur in March 1965. It used a minimum age of 55 for competitors, and had the Seagram Company The Seagram Company Ltd. The 2006 Tim Hortons Brier, the Canadian men's national curling championship, was held from March 11 to 19 at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan.
