Mark Hunter (ice Hockey)
Mark William Hunter (born November 12, 1962) is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive, coach, and former player. He most recently served as the assistant general manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hunter was born in Petrolia, Ontario, but grew up in nearby (13 km) Oil Springs, Ontario, and was one of three brothers, with Dave and Dale, to play in the NHL. Junior hockey Brantford Alexanders Hunter began his junior hockey career with the Brantford Alexanders for the 1979–80 season where in his rookie season he finished fifth in team scoring, getting 34 goals and 89 points in 66 games, while getting 171 penalty minutes, helping Brantford to the playoffs. In 11 postseason games, Hunter had two goals and 10 points. Petrolia, Ontario
Petrolia is a town in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is part of Lambton County and is surrounded by Enniskillen Township. It is billed as "Canada's Victorian Oil Town" and is often credited with starting the oil industry in North America, a claim shared with the nearby town of Oil Springs. Hartford, Connecticut
Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It was the seat of Hartford County until Connecticut disbanded county government in 1960. The 38th National Hockey League All-Star Game was held in the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, home to the Hartford Whalers, on February 4, 1986. Highlights The Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) had annually chosen participants of the NHL All-Star Game prior to the league's fans voting for the starting players as of the 1986 All-Star Game.; When the league's fans voted Pelle Lindbergh as a starting goaltender in the 1986 game despite his death a few months earlier, PHWA president Rod Beaton doubted that the PHWA would have been chosen Lindbergh since its members were not sentimental and took the choice seriously. 1985–86 NHL Season
The 1985–86 NHL season was the 69th season of the National Hockey League. This season saw the league's Board of Governors introduce the Presidents' Trophy, which would go to the team with the best overall record in the NHL regular season. The Edmonton Oilers would be the first winners of this award. The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Calgary Flames four games to one in the final series to win the Stanley Cup. League business On June 13, 1985, the NHL board of governors voted 17–4 in favour of amending a penalty rule. Previously, coincidental minor penalties would result in 4-on-4 play. 1985 NHL Entry Draft
The 1985 NHL Entry Draft was the 23rd NHL Entry Draft. It was the first draft outside Montreal. The event was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, and attended by 7,000 fans. The National Hockey League (NHL) teams selected 252 players eligible for entry into professional ranks, in the reverse order of the 1984–85 NHL season and playoff standings. Adams Division
The NHL's Adams Division was formed in 1974 as part of the Prince of Wales Conference. The division existed for 19 seasons until 1993. The Edmonton Oilers won their second straight Stanley Cup by beating the Philadelphia Flyers four games to one in the final series. 1983–84 NHL Season
The 1983–84 NHL season was the 67th season of the National Hockey League. The Edmonton Oilers de-throned the four-time defending Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders four games to one in the Cup finals. League business Not since World War II travel restrictions caused the NHL to drop regular season overtime games in 1942–43 had the NHL used overtime to decide regular season games. Starting this season, the NHL introduced a five-minute extra period of overtime following the third period in the event of a tied game. A team losing in overtime would get no points. This rule remained in effect until the 1999–2000 season, where a team losing in overtime was awarded 1 point.
