Mark Horton (archaeologist)
Mark Chatwin Horton, FSA (born 15 February 1956) is a British maritime and historical archaeologist, television presenter, and writer Academic career Horton attended Peterhouse, Cambridge, graduating and receiving a doctorate. He is Professor of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, and Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol. One of his former students is the archaeologist and television presenter Sam Willis. He is part of a new project to establish the Cultural Heritage Institute in the former Great Western Railway carriage works at Swindon, that will offer research and masters training from 2020. He has conducted excavations in Zanzibar, Egypt, the Caribbean, North America, Central America and France, as well as sites in Britain. Mark Horton (bridge)
Mark Howard Horton (born 22 February 1950) is a British bridge journalist and expert player, as well as a former archaeologist and chess champion. He was the editor of ''Bridge Magazine'' from 1995 until it ceased publication at the end of 2017, and then became the editor of its purely online successors, first ''A New Bridge Magazine'' and subsequently ''BeBRIDGE''. He currently lives in Bath with his partner Liz. Chess accomplishments Horton was a powerful chess player who as a Junior represented England and subsequently played for Great Britain in the European Team Correspondence Championship, winning the gold medal on his board as the team took the bronze. He penned a series of articles and booklets on Opening theory and American legend Bobby Fischer used one of his suggestions to win a game against Russian Mark Taimanov on his way to the World title. Mary Ann Horton (born Mark R. Horton, on November 21, 1955), is a Usenet and Internet pioneer. Horton contributed to Berkeley UNIX (BSD), including the vi editor and terminfo database, (see Acknowlegments section at end of file) created the first email binary attachment tool uuencode, and led the growth of Usenet in the 1980s. Horton successfully requested the first transgender-inclusive language added to the Equal Employment Policy in a large American company, and championed the language and insurance coverage of transgender health benefits at other companies. Horton is a computer scientist and a transgender educator and activist. Education Horton was born in Richland, Washington, and raised in the Pacific Northwest. Mackenzie James Horton (born 25 April 1996) is an Australian freestyle swimmer. He is an Olympic gold medallist, World Championships medallist, and Commonwealth Games medallist. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he finished first in the 400m freestyle, winning his first gold medal and became the first male swimmer from the state of Victoria to do so in the Games' history. Career 2012–2013 Horton first represented Australia at the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center, where he won gold in the 1500 metre freestyle in a championship record time of 15:10.07.
