Mark Gardner (footballer)
Mark Clayson Gardner (11 September 1884 – 2 November 1949) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne and Melbourne University Football Club, University in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). He was the younger brother of Corrie Gardner and Eric Gardner. Hawthorn is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Boroondara local government area. Hawthorn recorded a population of 22,322 at the 2021 census. Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, is designated as one of 82 Major Activity Centres in the Melbourne 2030 Metropolitan Strategy. History The name Hawthorn, gazetted in 1840 as "Hawthorne", is thought to have originated from a conversation involving Charles La Trobe, who commented that the native shrubs looked like flowering Hawthorn bushes.
