Mark Diacono
Mark Diacono is a food writer, grower, photographer and cook, who has published 13 books. In 2015, he won the André Simon Food Book of the Year 2014 for his book ''A Year at Otter Farm'', and in 2011 he was awarded Food Book of the Year for ''A Taste of the Unexpected'' by the Guild of Food Writers. He established a smallholding, Otter Farm, near Honiton in East Devon, England. In 2016 Otter Farm was featured on Grand Designs when Mark and wife Candida contracted the build of the farmhouse and adjoining cookery school in steel frame and cob. He has a long association with River Cottage, having appeared in the TV series, run courses, written books and led the garden team there. Mark is an Honorary Fellow of Liverpool University, was awarded an Honorary Degree by University of Winchester, and has a MSc in Environmental Management and Planning (Distinction) from Oxford Brookes University. Guild Of Food Writers
The Guild of Food Writers is the professional association of food writers and broadcasters in the United Kingdom. It has around 550 authors, broadcasters, columnists and journalists amongst its members. History On 12 April 1984, a number of leading British food writers met at London's Intercontinental Hotel, for lunch prepared by the hotel's chef Peter Kromberg, to discuss the formation of an association of food writers. Attendees included Elizabeth David, Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Katie Stewart. It was decided that the association would be modelled along the lines of the existing Circle of Wine Writers. On 17 January 1985, the first meeting of the Guild of Food Writers took place in Claridges, under the chairmanship of Derek Cooper. A smallholding or smallholder is a small farm operating under a small-scale agriculture model. Honiton
Honiton ( or ) is a market town and civil parish in East Devon, situated close to the River Otter, north east of Exeter in the county of Devon. Honiton has a population estimated at 11,822 (based on mid-year estimates for the two Honiton Wards in 2009). History The town grew along the line of the Fosse Way, the ancient Roman road linking Exeter ( Isca Dumnoniorum) to Lincoln (Lindum). Contrary to 19th-century theories, it is unlikely to have been known as a stopping-point by the Romans, who built a small fort for that purpose just to the west of the present town. Honiton's location is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Honetone, meaning Huna's tun or farmstead. ''Grand Designs'' is a British television series produced by Boundless and broadcast on Channel 4 which features unusual and often elaborate architectural homebuilding projects. The programme has been presented by Kevin McCloud since it first aired in April 1999, and more than 200 episodes have been broadcast in twenty-three series. Format Episodes generally follow a regular format, with small variations depending on the progress of the build. River Cottage
River Cottage is a brand used for a number of ventures by television chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. These include a long-running Channel 4 television series, cookery courses, events, restaurants and products such as beer and organic yogurts. There are two River Cottage Kitchen restaurants championing organic and local food. These can be found in Axminster and Winchester. James Beard Foundation Award
The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists in the United States. They are scheduled around James Beard's May 5 birthday.
