Mark Bathum
Mark Bathum (born October 1, 1958) is an American Paralympic alpine skier. He has competed at two Winter Paralympics, two World Cups and two World Championships. Personal history Mark Bathum was born on October 1, 1958, in Seattle, Washington. He was then brought up in Seattle. At age 9, he began skiing, and three years later, at 12, began ski racing. 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships
The 2013 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships was an international disability sport alpine skiing event held in La Molina ski resort in Spain from 18 to 27 February 2013. The Championship is held biannually by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and is the largest event of its type outside the Winter Paralympics. Skiers competed in sitting, standing or visually impaired classification categories in Downhill, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super-G, Super Combined and Team events. Over 118 skiers competed, with France finishing the Championship on top of the medal table with the most gold medals and Canada finishing with the highest total medals won (14). Alpine Skiing At The 2010 Winter Paralympics – Men's Downhill
The Men's Downhill competition of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics was held at Whistler Blackcomb in Whistler, British Columbia. The competition was scheduled for Saturday, March 13, but was postponed to Thursday, March 18 due to bad weather conditions. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. "Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships
The 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships was an international disability sport alpine skiing event held in Panorama Mountain Village, British Columbia, Canada from March 2 to 10, 2015. The Championship is held biannually by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and is the largest event of its type outside the Winter Paralympics. Skiers competed in sitting, standing or visually impaired classification categories in Downhill, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super-G, Super Combined and Team events. Over 130 skiers competed, with Russia finishing the Championship on top of the medal table in both gold medals won and total medals. This proved to be the last event under the title of "IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships". On 30 November 2016, the IPC, which serves as the international governing body for 10 disability sports, including Alpine skiing, adopted the "World Para" branding for all of those sports. IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships
The World Para Alpine Skiing Championships, known before the 2017 edition as the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships, along with the Winter Paralympic Games, are the most prestigious level of international competition in Paralympic alpine skiing. First held in 1974, the World Championships have been held every four years (even-numbered non-Paralympic years) from 1982 to 2004; beginning in 2009, they have been held every other year, in odd-numbered years. The change from holding the World Championships every four years to every two was originally set to happen in 2007.
