Marjorie Parker (figure Skater)
Marjorie Parker Smith (March 3, 1916 – January 17, 2009) was an American figure skater who competed in ice dancing, pair skating, single skating, and fours in the latter part of the 1930s. Nearly fifty years later, she again gained championship status in running the 300-yard and the 600-yard dashes. Parker Smith was a member of the first official United States Ice Dancing Championship team and an inductee in the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame, Class of 2009. She also was on the board of directors of the Society of Old Brooklynites where she was a life member. Parker Smith devoted many hours of volunteer service to NYC-based WABC Radio's 'Call For Action' program. She died at age of 92 on January 17, 2009 at her home in Brooklyn, New York. Howard is an English-language given name originating from Old French Huard (or Houard) from a Germanic source similar to Old High German ''*Hugihard'' "heart-brave", or ''*Hoh-ward'', literally "high defender; chief guardian". United States Figure Skating Championships
The U.S. Figure Skating Championships is a figure skating competition held annually to crown the national champions of the United States. The competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating. In the U.S. skating community, the event is often referred to informally as "Nationals". Medals are currently awarded in four disciplines: men's (boys') singles, ladies' (girls') singles, pair skating, and ice dancing in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth) on two levels, senior and junior. Medals were previously given at the novice, intermediate, and juvenile levels. The Skating Club of New York is a figure skating club in New York City. It was founded in 1863 and is the second oldest skating club in the United States. It was one of the founding members of the United States Figure Skating Association. 2009 United States Figure Skating Championships
The 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place from January 18 to 25th 2009 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Skaters competed in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – and across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. Medals were awarded in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth). Joseph Savage
Joseph Knebel Savage (May 21, 1879 in New York, New York – March 10, 1956 in Asbury Park, New Jersey) was an American figure skater who competed in pairs and ice dance. Teamed with Edith Secord, he won the bronze medal in pairs at the United States Figure Skating Championships in 1929 and 1930 and finished eighth at the 1930 World Figure Skating Championships. He then teamed with Gertrude Meredith, capturing two more bronze medals at the U.S. Championships in 1932 and 1933 and finishing seventh out of seven pairs at the 1932 Winter Olympic Games (when Savage was 52 years old). Savage later switched disciplines to ice dance and teamed with Marjorie Parker to win the first official United States championship in 1936. After he and Parker won a silver medal at the 1937 nationals, he joined forces with partner Katherine Durbrow to win another silver in 1938.
