Marisa Abegg
Marisa Rene Abegg (born March 14, 1987) is an American retired soccer defender. Early career She attended Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon. College Abegg played for the Stanford Cardinal women's soccer team from 2005 to 2008, starting in all ninety-one matches that Stanford played during her college career and scoring three goals. Professional career Abegg was drafted by FC Gold Pride at the 2009 WPS Draft. Despite being promoted from the developmental roster to the full squad, Abegg was deemed surplus to requirements at season's close by Albertin Montoya. She appeared for FC Gold Pride in 6 games. In 2010, Abegg was picked up by Washington Freedom as a developmental player. In 2011 and 2012 she played for D.C. FC Gold Pride
FC Gold Pride was an American professional soccer club based in the San Francisco Bay Area, which participated in Women's Professional Soccer. The club replaced the San Jose CyberRays of the defunct Women's United Soccer Association as the top-level women's soccer team in the San Francisco Bay Area. FC Gold Pride moved to its final home of Pioneer Stadium on the campus of CSU East Bay in June 2010 after opening their 2010 home schedule at the Castro Valley High School Athletic Stadium. The club ceased operations in November 2010 after struggling financially and being unable to find new investors. The Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is an amateur women's soccer league in the United States and Canada. It is the top amateur league for women's soccer in the United States soccer pyramid, below only National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The WPSL is the longest-running active women's soccer league as it enters its 23rd season in 2021 – the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The WPSL is also the largest women's soccer league in the United States, North America and the world with 135 active teams.
