Mario Cervi
Mario Cervi (25 March 1921 – 17 November 2015) was an Italian essayist and journalist. Born in Crema, Lombardy, Cervi started his career as a journalist in 1945 collaborating with the newspaper ''Corriere della Sera'' as a foreign reporter. In 1965 he debuted as an essayist with ''Storia della guerra di Grecia'' ("History of the War of Greece"), with references to his experience as an infantry officer in Greece during the Second World War. After about thirty years of collaboration, in 1974 he left the ''Corriere della Sera'' to co-found, with Indro Montanelli, the newspaper ''il Giornale'', in which he was columnist and then also deputy editor. With Montanelli, Cervi co-wrote 13 volumes of '' Storia d'Italia'' and the historical essay ''Milano ventesimo secolo''. Storia D'Italia
''Storia d'Italia'' (History of Italy) is a monumental work of the journalist and historian Indro Montanelli, written in collaboration with Roberto Gervaso and Mario Cervi from 1965 to 1997. The idea of a series of books about the history of Italy came to Montanelli after a conversation with Dino Buzzati. Montanelli initially proposed the idea to Mondadori, who wasn't interested. Montanelli then spoke to Longanesi, who agreed to publish the prologue, ''Storia di Roma'' (History of Rome) in 1957. Following the success of the book, Rizzoli purchased the rights of the work and republished it in 1959. In 1965 Rizzoli, satisfied with the cultural impact of the book and its commercial success, agreed to publish the ambitious ''Storia d'Italia''. The work is divided into several volumes, each dedicated to an era of Italian history from the fall of the Western Roman Empire (476 AD) until the end of the 20th century. Crema, Lombardy
Crema (; Eastern Lombard, Cremasco: ) is a city and ''comune'' in the province of Cremona, in the region of Lombardy in northern Italy. It is built along the river Serio River, Serio at from Cremona. It is also the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Crema, who gave the title of city to Crema. Crema's main economic activities traditionally (since the 11th century) related to agriculture, cattle breeding and making wool, but its manufactures in later centuries include cheese, iron products and cotton and wool textiles.
