Mario Barrett
Mario Dewar Barrett (born August 27, 1986), known mononymously as Mario, is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, model, and actor. Born and raised in Baltimore, he signed a record deal with J Records at the age of fourteen, and recorded his self-titled debut album released in 2002. It includes the top 10 single, " Just a Friend 2002". His second album ''Turning Point'', was released in 2004, and produced the number one single " Let Me Love You", which won him two ''Billboard'' Music Awards. His third studio album '' Go'' was released in December 2007, and included the singles " How Do I Breathe", " Crying Out for Me" and " Music for Love". His fourth studio album '' D.N.A.'' was released in 2009, and included the singles "Break Up" (featuring Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett) and " Thinkin' About You". "Just a Friend 2002" is a song by American R&B singer Mario, written by Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, Harold Lilly, John Smith, and Biz Markie. It is a loose cover of Markie's hit "Just a Friend" and was the first single released from Mario's self-titled debut album. Mario's version is different, as the story is changed from a man who discovers his girlfriend has been cheating on him to a story about unrequited love. Produced by Campbell, the song was released in April 2002 and outperformed Markie's 1989 version on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, peaking at number four on August 24, 2002, while Markie's peaked at number nine. Background Although the song's chorus interpolates Biz Markie's "Just a Friend," the stories in the two songs are different. ''Step Up'' is a 2006 American teen romantic dance drama film directed by Anne Fletcher (in her directorial debut) from a screenplay by Duane Adler and Melissa Rosenberg and a story by Adler. The film stars Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan, Mario, Drew Sidora, Damaine Radcliff, and Rachel Griffiths. ''Dancing Shadows'' is the fifth studio album from American singer and songwriter Mario, released on October 5, 2018. The release of the album marks the first under the singer's own imprint New Citizen Music, in partnership with EMPIRE Distribution. ''Dancing Shadows'' is the first project by the singer that features his own songwriting on every track. The album serves as a follow-up to his fourth album '' D.N.A.'' (2009) and his first studio effort in almost a decade. It was executive produced by Mario and English producer Jake Gosling, with additional producers xSDTRK, Daecolm, Pham, J Warner, P2J and Ryan McDermott. The album's lead single, "Drowning" was released on July 20, 2018, along with the accompanying music video, while the second single, "Dancing Shadows" was released on September 14, 2018 and also includes an accompanying music video.
