Mario Alborghetti
Mario Alborghetti (23 October 192811 April 1955) was an Italian motor racing driver who raced in Formula One for the Volpini-Arzani team. He was killed in an accident during his Grand Prix debut. Career A wealthy man, Alborghetti commissioned designer Gianpaolo Volpini and engineer Egidio Arzani to build him a Grand Prix car to drive. The group acquired an ex-Scuderia Milano Maserati 4CLT with a Speluzzi engine. The vehicle was overhauled, with new bodywork and an engine which conformed with the 2.5l Formula One regulations then in place. The special was entered for the 1955 Turin Grand Prix but work was not finished and the team failed to arrive. Accident and death The car was ready in time for the 1955 Pau Grand Prix. Pau was considered to be a difficult circuit, especially for a driver as inexperienced as Alborghetti. 1955 Daily Telegraph Trophy
The 2nd Daily Telegraph Trophy was a motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 3 September 1955 at Aintree Circuit, Merseyside. The race was run over 17 laps, and was won by British driver Roy Salvadori in a Maserati 250F. Salvadori also set fastest lap, and Stirling Moss was on pole position in a 250F but retired with engine problems. Bob Gerard was second in a Cooper T23-Bristol and Horace Gould third in another 250F. This was the first race for the BRM P25. It only managed a few laps in practice before oil leaking onto the tyres caused driver Peter Collins to spin off and damage the car. 1955 Daily Record Trophy
The 3rd Daily Record Trophy was a motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 6 August 1955 at Charterhall Circuit, Berwickshire. The race was run over two heats of 15 laps and a final of 20 laps, and was won by British driver Bob Gerard in a Maserati 250F. Horace Gould and Louis Rosier were second and third, also in 250Fs. Gerard and Rosier shared fastest lap. This was the only occasion on which the Daily Record Trophy was run under Formula 1 rules, the previous races in 1953 and 1954 being Formula Libre events. It was also the last occurrence of the event. The 3rd London Trophy was a auto racing, motor race, run to Formula One rules, held on 30 July 1955 at Crystal Palace Circuit, London. The race was run over two heats of 10 laps and a final of 15 laps, and was won by British driver Mike Hawthorn in a Maserati 250F. Hawthorn started from pole position in Heat 1 and set fastest lap in the heat, and also in the final. Vanwall driver Harry Schell started from pole position in Heat 2 and set fastest lap in that heat. Schell was second in the final and Roy Salvadori in a Maserati 250F was third. Despite most Internet sources describing this race as the London Trophy, it really should be called the International Trophy (not to be confused with the BRDC International Trophy). 1955 Bordeaux Grand Prix
The 1955 Bordeaux Grand Prix was a non-championship Formula One motor race held on 24 April 1955 on a street circuit centred around the Place des Quinconces in Bordeaux, France. The Grand Prix was won by Jean Behra, who also set pole position, driving a Maserati 250F. Luigi Musso finished second and Roberto Mieres third. Less than a minute separated the three drivers after nearly three hours of racing.
