''Marilyn Times Five'' is a 1973 experimental film by American filmmaker Bruce Conner. Plot It is an exploration of how a film's form can influence audience perception of the content of film. For this film, the footage comes from ''Apple Knockers and Coke'', a famous porno loop from the late '40s featuring Monroe look-alike Arline Hunter while the song "I'm Through With Love" by Marilyn herself is playing. Bruce Conner
Bruce Conner (November 18, 1933 – July 7, 2008) was an American artist who worked with assemblage, film, drawing, sculpture, painting, collage, and photography. Biography Bruce Conner was born November 18, 1933 in McPherson, Kansas.His well-to-do middle-class family moved to Wichita, when Conner was four. He attended high school in Wichita, Kansas. Conner studied at Wichita University (now Wichita State University) and later at University of Nebraska, where he graduated in 1956 with a bachelor of fine arts degree. During this time as a student he visited New York City. Conner worked in a variety of media from an early age. Early career (mid 1950s / early 1960s) In 1955, Conner studied for six months at Brooklyn Museum Art School on a scholarship. His first solo gallery show in New York City took place in 1956 and featured paintings. Arline Hunter
Arline Hunter (born Arlene J. Hunter; December 16, 1931 – September 11, 2018) was an American actress and model. She was perhaps best known as '' Playboy's'' Playmate of the Month for August 1954. Her centerfold was the first not to be purchased from the John Baumgarth Co. by Hugh Hefner, and was instead photographed by Ed DeLong, who went on to become one of the more prolific ''Playboy'' photographers in the 1960s. Career Much of Hunter's fame was built upon her resemblance to Marilyn Monroe; indeed, her ''Playboy'' pose was obviously inspired by Monroe's notorious 1949 nude photo session with Tom Kelley from which her own ''Playboy'' photo came.
