Marilyn Price-Mitchell
Marilyn Price-Mitchell (born March 1, 1949) is an American psychologist, author, columnist, speaker, and youth development expert. She is the co-founder and serves on the Advisory Board of the Washington State Family & Community Engagement Trust (formerly known as the National ParentNet Association) and has a regular column at ''Psychology Today''. She has also served as a fellow at the Fielding Graduate University Institute for Social Innovation. Background and education Price-Mitchell grew up in Harper Woods, Michigan, the daughter of Herman William Dennis and Dorothy Virginia Latimer. She graduated (Marilyn Dennis) from Harper Woods High School in 1967 and has an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Positive education is an approach to education that draws on positive psychology's emphasis of individual strengths and personal motivation to promote learning. Positive youth development (PYD) programs are designed to optimize youth developmental progress. ''Youth.gov'' states that "PYD is an intentional, prosocial approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances young people’s strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths."
