Marie De Hautefort
Marie de Hautefort (1616 – 1691), was a French noble and lady-in-waiting, a trusted confidante and adviser of King Louis XIII of France. They did not have a sexual relationship and she was thereby a favorite rather than a royal mistress. She was also a personal friend of Queen Anne of Austria. Life Marie de Hautefort was born to Marquis Charles de Hautefort and Renée du Bellay. Her maternal grandmother Catherine le Voyer de Lignerolles was a lady-in-waiting to the Queen Dowager Marie de' Medici, and she made the acquaintance of the king in the daily gathering in the drawing room of Queen Anne, where he fell in love with her. Cardinal Mazarin
Cardinal Jules Mazarin (, also , , ; 14 July 1602 – 9 March 1661), born Giulio Raimondo Mazzarino () or Mazarini, was an Italian cardinal, diplomat and politician who served as the chief minister to the Kings of France Louis XIII and Louis XIV from 1642 to his death. In 1654, he acquired the title Duke of Mayenne and in 1659 that of 1st Duke of Rethel and Nevers. After serving as a papal diplomat for Pope Urban VIII, Mazarin offered his diplomatic services to Cardinal Richelieu and moved to Paris in 1640. After the death of Richelieu in 1642, Mazarin took his place as first minister and then of Louis XIII in 1643. Charles De Schomberg
Charles de Schomberg (16 February 1601 – 6 June 1656), Duke d'Halluin, was a French soldier from the 17th century and Marshal of France. Biography Charles de Schomberg was the son of Henri de Schomberg, also a Marshal of France, and his first wife Françoise d'Espinay. Charles de Schomberg is best known for his victory against the Spanish at the Battle of Leucate on 28 September 1637. Following this victory, he was made a Marshal of France. He was Governor of Languedoc between 1633 and 1644. Then he became Governor of the Citadel of Metz and of the Trois-Évêchés between 1644 and his death in 1656. He was also Colonel-general of the Cent-Suisses et Grisons between 1647 and 1656. He first married Anne, Duchess d'Halluin, who had divorced Henry de Nogaret de La Valette. This made him Duke of Halluin, but Henry de Nogaret de La Valette also kept his title, which led to complicated situations at the French Court. Anne died without children in November 1641. Henri Coiffier De Ruzé, Marquis Of Cinq-Mars
Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, Marquis of Cinq-Mars (1620 – 12 September 1642) was a favourite of King Louis XIII of France, who led the last and most nearly successful of many conspiracies against the Cardinal Richelieu, the king's powerful first minister. Life Cinq-Mars was the son of Marshal Antoine Coiffier de Ruzé, marquis d'Effiat, a close friend of Cardinal Richelieu, who took the boy under his protection on his father's death in 1632. Career As the son of the marquis d'Effiat, a famous Superintendent of Finances who was also a good friend of Richelieu's, Cinq-Mars came to court very early. In 1639, after the exile of the royal favourite Marie de Hautefort, Richelieu introduced the young Cinq-Mars to Louis, hoping he would find favour with the king, thus allowing Richelieu to exercise even greater control over the king. A lady-in-waiting or court lady is a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman. Historically, in Europe, a lady-in-waiting was often a noblewoman but of lower rank than the woman to whom she attended. Although she may either have received a retainer or may not have received compensation for the service she rendered, a lady-in-waiting was considered more of a secretary, courtier, or companion to her mistress than a servant. In other parts of the world, the lady-in-waiting, often referred to as ''palace woman'', was in practice a servant or a slave rather than a high-ranking woman, but still had about the same tasks, functioning as companion and secretary to her mistress.
