Marie Bochet
Marie Bochet (born 2 February 1994) is a French alpine skier and Paralympic Champion. Life Bochet was born in Chambéry in 1994. She was five when she started skiing. She has a disability and she was the first skier to finish in the giant slalom race. She skied at the 2011 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships and she was the second skier to finish in the standing women's downhill race and the Super-G. Bochet competed in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, where she won four gold medals. At the 2018 Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang, Bochet won four further gold medals. Chambéry (, , ; Arpitan: ''Chambèri'') is the prefecture of the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. France sent 15 athletes and two guides to the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. They competed in para-alpine skiing, para-Nordic skiing and para-snowboarding. Marie Bochet carried the flag during the Opening Ceremony. Four people from France competed in para-snowboarding. Five people competed in para-alpine skiing. Six skiers and two guide skiers competed in para-Nordic skiing. They won seven gold medals, eight silver and five bronze including four golds for Bochet and three golds and two silvers for Benjamin Daviet. Paralympic alpine skiing is an adaptation of alpine skiing for athletes with a disability. The sport evolved from the efforts of disabled veterans in Germany and Austria during and after the Second World War. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee Sports Committee. The primary equipment used includes outrigger skis, sit-skis, and mono-skis. Para-alpine skiing disciplines include the Downhill, Super-G, Giant slalom, Slalom, Super Combined and Snowboard. Para-alpine skiing classification is the classification system for para-alpine skiing designed to ensure fair competition between alpine skiers with different types of disabilities. 2011 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships
The 2011 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships was held in Sestriere, Italy, from January 14 to 23, 2011. IPC stands for International Paralympic Committee. Skiers competed in sitting, standing or visually impaired classification categories in Downhill, Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super-G, Super Combined and Team events. Over 130 skiers competed, including German multiple-Paralympic medalist Gerd Schönfelder, who competed in classification-category standing events.
