Marie-Victorin (provincial Electoral District)
Marie-Victorin is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district is located in the Vieux-Longueuil Borough of Longueuil. It is bordered to the north by chemin de Chambly, to the east by the city limits, to the south by the Canadian National railway, Boulevard Deslauniers and the city limits and to the west by the Saint Lawrence River. It was created for the 1981 election from parts of Laporte and Taillon electoral districts. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained some territory from Taillon. Shirley Dorismond
Shirley Dorismond is a Canadian politician and former union leader and nurse, who represents the electoral district of Marie-Victorin in the National Assembly of Quebec. She is a member of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), winning a 2022 by-election following the resignation of the former MNA Catherine Fournier. She is the first CAQ MNA for Marie-Victorin, as the district had been a Parti Québécois (PQ) stronghold since its creation in 1980, with only a one-year gap in 1984 when the Liberal party won a byelection, until Fournier left the PQ in 2019. Catherine Fournier (Canadian Politician)
Catherine Fournier (born 7 April 1992) is a Canadian politician, who was elected as mayor of Longueuil on November 7, 2021. She is the third female mayor in the city's history. She was previously member of the National Assembly of Quebec, having been elected in a by-election on December 5, 2016. She represented the electoral district of Marie-Victorin. Fournier was the youngest member of the National Assembly, and the youngest woman ever elected to that body. Originally elected as a member of the Parti Québécois, Fournier won a full term in 2018 even amid the PQ's meltdown in Greater Montreal; she was the only surviving PQ member from the metro area. Cécile Vermette (born January 19, 1945) is a former nurse and political figure in Quebec. She represented Marie-Victorin in the Quebec National Assembly from 1985 to 2007 as a member of the Parti Québécois. The Green Party of Quebec (GPQ) (french: link=no, Parti vert du Québec; PVQ) is a Quebec political party whose platform is the promotion of green politics. It has not won any seats in the National Assembly of Quebec. Its platform is oriented towards promotion of green values, sustainable development, and participatory democracy. The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP; french: Parti libéral du Québec, PLQ) is a provincial political party in Quebec. It has been independent of the federal Liberal Party of Canada since 1955. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. Simon Jolin-Barrette is a Canadian lawyer and politician in Quebec, Jolin-Barrette (born 1987) was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 Quebec election. He represents the riding of Borduas as a member of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ). Political career Jolin-Barrette was part of a group of 40 young entrepreneurs who joined the CAQ at the time of the party's founding in 2011. He ran as the CAQ candidate in Marie-Victorin in the 2012 Quebec election, coming in second to Bernard Drainville of the Parti Québécois (PQ). In the 2014 election, Jolin-Barrette defeated the PQ candidate in Borduas, Pierre Duchesne (the then Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology), by 99 votes. Bernard Drainville (born June 6, 1963) is a Canadian politician, television host and journalist. He was the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Marie-Victorin in Longueuil from 2007 to 2016, representing the Parti Québécois. Biography Drainville was born in L'Isle du Pads, Quebec. He attended the University of Ottawa, where he was president of the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa in 1984-85, and obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in international relations at the London School of Economics.
