Marie-Louise Dähler
Marie-Louise Dähler is a Swiss harpsichordist. As such, she is a basso continuo player, chamber music partner and soloist with a focus on improvisation. Life Dähler grew up in Bern in a family of musicians. She began playing the harpsichord at the age of five. She studied pedagogy at the LehrerInnenseminar Muristalden in Bern, and harpsichord with her father, Jörg Ewald Dähler, at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, graduating with a diploma as a harpsichord pedagogue. She studied further at the Musikakademie St. Gallen, and with Johann Sonnleitner at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, graduating with a concert diploma. She passed her diplomas with distinction. Together with Wolfgang Schulz, solo flutist of the Vienna Philharmonic, she recorded Bach's flute sonatas. Since 1999, she has collaborated with the Swiss violinist Paul Giger. A harpsichordist is a person who plays the harpsichord. Harpsichordists may play as soloists, as accompanists, as chamber musicians, or as members of an orchestra, or some combination of these roles. Solo harpsichordists may play unaccompanied sonatas for harpsichord or concertos accompanied by orchestra. Basso continuo parts, almost universal in the Baroque era (1600–1750), provided the harmonic structure of the music by supplying a bassline and a chord progression. The phrase is often shortened to continuo, and the instrumentalists playing the continuo part are called the ''continuo group''. Harpsichord
A harpsichord ( it, clavicembalo; french: clavecin; german: Cembalo; es, clavecín; pt, cravo; nl, klavecimbel; pl, klawesyn) is a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. This activates a row of levers that turn a trigger mechanism that plucks one or more strings with a small plectrum made from quill or plastic. The strings are under tension on a soundboard, which is mounted in a wooden case; the soundboard amplifies the vibrations from the strings so that the listeners can hear it. Like a pipe organ, a harpsichord may have more than one keyboard manual, and even a pedal board. Harpsichords may also have stop buttons which add or remove additional octaves. Jörg Ewald Dähler
Jörg Ewald Dähler (16 March 1933 – 3 November 2018), is a Swiss conductor, harpsichordist, forte piano player and composer. Life Born in Bern, Dähler, son of the reformed pastor Karl Walter Dähler (1903-1986), grew up in Langnau im Emmental. He then attended the teacher training college in Hofwil. At the Hochschule für Musik in Bern, he graduated as a teacher of piano and then studied harpsichord at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau. He also teaches Basso continuo, chamber music and choral conducting at the Berne Conservatory of Music and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Among his pupils are Olive Emil Wetter, Hans Eugen Frischknecht. Wolfgang Schulz (26 February 1946 – 28 March 2013) was an Austrian concert flutist and university lecturer. He was principal flutist of the Vienna Philharmonic and professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Life Born in Linz, Schulz, violinist Gerhard Schulz' older brother, received his first flute lessons from 1956 with Christiane Schwamberger and Willi Bauer at the Music School in Linz, followed by training with Rudolf Leitner at the Anton Bruckner Private University. Chamber Music
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers).
