Marian Anderson (Insaints)
Marian Anderson (born Marian Jennifer Holloway, August 13, 1968 – November 4, 2001) was an American punk rock singer in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. She was the lead singer of the band the INSAINTS, Insaints and performed at the 924 Gilman Street project in Berkeley, California, Berkeley, where she was arrested for lewd and lascivious acts in 1993, claimed her acts were protected artistic speech, and was eventually acquitted. Anderson died of a heroin overdose in 2001. Early life Holloway was born in San Francisco, California, on August 13, 1968, the first child born to Jennifer Justus and Rex Marion Holloway. When she was eight months old, the family moved to Pacific Grove, California. During her childhood she was physically and sexually abused by her violent and alcoholic father, and her parents divorced in 1974. San Francisco Bay Guardian
The ''San Francisco Bay Guardian'' was a free alternative newspaper published weekly in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1966 by Bruce B. Brugmann and his wife, Jean Dibble. The paper was shut down on October 14, 2014. It was relaunched in February 2016 as an online publication. The ''Bay Guardian'' was known for reporting, celebrating, and promoting left-wing and progressive issues within San Francisco and (albeit rarely) around the San Francisco Bay Area as a whole. This usually included muckraking, legislation to control and limit gentrification, and endorsement of political candidates and other laws and policies that fall within its political views. It also printed movie and music reviews, an annual nude beaches issue, and an annual sex issue. Tim Yohannan
Tim Yohannan (August 15, 1945 – April 3, 1998), also known as Tim Yo, was the founder of ''Maximum Rocknroll'', a radio show and fanzine documenting punk subculture. He also helped in establishing a number of DIY collectives, such as 924 Gilman Street, Blacklist Mailorder, and the Epicenter Zone record store. Biography Yohannan was initially a 1960s counterculture-era leftist, before shifting this ideology to the punk scene. Issue 425 of Maximumrocknroll stated, "Tim Yo was a Marxist!" He helped mold the early 1980s American punk scene, and tied in various international punk scenes, through documenting them in ''Maximum Rocknroll'', a fanzine he founded in 1982. As the zine became popular and profitable, Yohannan donated those profits to zines and collectives, even as he continued blue-collar work in the Lawrence Hall of Science at University of California, Berkeley.
