Maria De Taye
Maria de Taye (died 28 July 1637) was the 25th abbess of Forest Abbey at Vorst in the Duchy of Brabant (now in Belgium) from 29 January 1609 until her death. She was originally from Gooik. During her time as abbess she overstretched the abbey's finances by purchasing a refugium in Brussels. She also commissioned paintings from Hieronymus van Orley to adorn the abbey church, and commissioned an atlas of the abbey's property from the surveyor Filips de Dijn.P. Abbess
An abbess (Latin: ''abbatissa''), also known as a mother superior, is the female superior of a community of Catholic nuns in an abbey. Description In the Catholic Church (both the Latin Church and Eastern Catholic), Eastern Orthodox, Coptic and Anglican abbeys, the mode of election, position, rights, and authority of an abbess correspond generally with those of an abbot. She must be at least 40 years old and have been a nun for 10 years. The age requirement in the Catholic Church has evolved over time, ranging from 30 to 60. The requirement of 10 years as a nun is only eight in Catholicism. Forest Abbey
Forest Abbey (french: Abbaye de Forest) or Vorst Abbey ( nl, Abdij van Vorst) was a Benedictines, Benedictine abbey located in the Brussels List of municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, municipality of Forest, Belgium, Forest, Belgium. It was founded in 1105 and existed for nearly 700 years, until its partial destruction by fire in 1764. It was abolished in 1796. Only the abbey's 18th-century outbuildings have been preserved. They are now owned by the municipality and serve as a cultural centre. Adrienne du Petit-Cambrai (died 1608) was the 24th abbess of Forest Abbey. Life The daughter of Françoise de Gavre of Liedekerke and of Antoine du Petit-Cambrai, lord of Huval, Adrienne du Petit-Cambrai was appointed abbess of Forest Abbey by royal letters patent, and was installed 27 September 1587. The monastery had been devastated during the early decades of the Dutch Revolt, and was rebuilt under her leadership. Françoise De Bette
Françoise Bette (1593–1666) was, from 1637 to 1666, the 26th abbess of Forest Abbey. She was born in Lede, in the county of Flanders, the daughter of Adrian Bette, knight, and Agnes de Merode de Rummen. Her cousin, Guillaume de Bette, 1st Marquess of Lede, was a knight of the Order of Santiago with links to the Habsburg court. As abbess she faced financial strains, which she attempted to meet by selling off part of the abbey's land. She also attempted to reform the monastery, which had acquired a reputation for loose discipline. She was not notably successful in either effort. In 1644 she commissioned a precious reliquary in Baroque style to house the relics of Saint Alena. This was probably paid for by her family. Forest, Belgium

Hieronymus Van Orley
Hieronymus van Orley (active c. 1612) was a Franciscan painter in the Spanish Netherlands. Van Orley was born in Brussels in 1590 and learnt the art of painting from Antonie Drua in Mechelen around 1612. Maria de Taye, abbess of Forest Abbey outside Brussels, commissioned paintings from him for the abbey church.
