''Maria Theresa'' (German: ''Maria Theresia'') is a 1951 Austrian historical drama film directed by Emil E. Reinert and starring Paula Wessely, Fred Liewehr and Marianne Schönauer.Fritsche p.64 It portrays the life of the eighteenth century Habsburg Empress Maria Theresa. It was produced by star Paula Wessely's own production company. The film's sets were designed by the art director Werner Schlichting. Some location shooting took place at the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. Rosa Albach-Retty (born Rosa Clara Franziska Helene Retty; 26 December 1874 – 26 August 1980) was an Austrian film and stage actress. Life Born into a well-known family of Austrian actors, she was the daughter of actor and director Rudolf Retty. Trained by her father, she began her stage career in 1890 at the Deutsches Theater and the Lessing Theater in Berlin, where she successfully performed in the title role of ''Minna von Barnhelm''. She was also known for breeches roles in Little Lord Fauntleroy and The Merchant of Venice. In 1895, she went to the Volkstheater in Vienna and in 1903 joined the Burgtheater ensemble, where she received the title of ''Hofschauspielerin'' (Actress of the Court) in 1905. She became an honorary member of the Burgtheater in 1928 and in 1958 she gave her final performance. Attila Hörbiger (21 April 1896 – 27 April 1987) was an Austrian stage and movie actor. Life Hörbiger was born in the Hungarian capital Budapest, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the son of engineer Hanns Hörbiger and the younger brother of actor Paul Hörbiger. In 1903 his family moved to Vienna, where his father set up a design office. Attila attended the Benedictine gymnasium at Saint Paul's Abbey, Carinthia from 1906 to 1914. He began his stage career at the Wiener Neustadt municipal theatre in 1919, followed by engagements in Stuttgart and Bozen.
