Maria Elena Berini
Sister Maria Elena Berini (born 9 December 1944) is an Italian Catholic nun, and mission worker. She won an International Women of Courage Award in 2018. Life She entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Jeanne-Antide Thouret. From 1963 to 1969, she trained as a teacher. In 1972, she went to Chad, to work in rural schools. In 2007, her congregation sent her to the Central African Republic. In 2017, she provided refuge at her Catholic mission, when rebels attacked Bocaranga. Sondrio (; lmo, Sùndri; rm, Sunder; archaic german: Sünders or ; la, Sundrium) is an Italian city and ''comune'' and Provincial Capital located in the heart of the Valtellina. , Sondrio counts approximately 21,876 inhabitants (2015) and it is the administrative centre for the province of Sondrio. The International Women of Courage Award, also referred to as the U.S. Secretary of State's International Women of Courage Award, is an American award presented annually by the United States Department of State to women around the world who have shown leadership, courage, resourcefulness, and willingness to sacrifice for others, especially in promoting women's rights. Jeanne-Antide Thouret
Jeanne-Antide Thouret (27 November 1765 - 24 August 1826;Rogatti, p. 441 also called Joan Antide Thouret and Jane Antide) was born in Sancey, in the Franche-Comté region of eastern France, on November 27, 1765, the fifth child of a poor and "deeply Christian family". She was baptized the day she was born and was named after her godmother. She had three older brothers. Thouret "felt a strong attraction to the stricter religious life and at the same time to the service of the poor" at a young age. Her mother died when she was sixteen years old; she cared for her family and siblings, despite conflict with her aunt who disagreed with her father's decision to allow her to care for her siblings. When she was 22, against the wishes of her family who wanted her to marry, Thouret entered the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul to serve the poor and work in hospitals, first in Langres and then in Paris. Bocaranga
Bocaranga is a sub-prefecture in the prefecture of Ouham-Pendé in Central African Republic. The city must not be confused with Bocaranga I, Bocaranga II, Bocaranga III and Bocaranga IV. These are smaller villages along the road from Bocaranga to Bouar History The village of Bocaranga was ceded to German Kamerun on 4 November 1911. It went back to French Oubangi-Chari rule in 1914.
