Maria Barbella
Maria Barbella (October 24, 1868 – March 24, 1950) was an Italian-born American woman. Erroneously known as Maria Barberi at the time, she was the second woman sentenced to die in the electric chair. She was convicted of killing her lover in 1895, but the ruling was overturned in 1896 and she was freed. Her trial became a cause célèbre in the late 19th century. Life Maria Barbella was born in Ferrandina, Basilicata, Italy. Her family immigrated to Mulberry Bend, New York, in 1892. After living in the United States for nearly a year, Maria Barbella met Domenico Cataldo, who was from the same region of Italy. She worked in a factory and every day she would pass Cataldo’s shoeshine booth. They spent much time together but Maria kept these meetings secret from her overprotective father, Michele. Ferrandina
Ferrandina ( Lucano: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Matera, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. It is a center for production of high quality olive oil. Geography data The town is located on a hill in the Basento Valley on the western bank of the river Basento. Levi Parsons Morton (May 16, 1824 – May 16, 1920) was the 22nd vice president of the United States from 1889 to 1893. He also served as United States ambassador to France, as a U.S. representative from New York, and as the 31st Governor of New York. Idanna Pucci
Idanna Pucci (born December 25, 1945) is an Italian writer and documentary filmmaker, and a member of the prominent Pucci family of Florence. Early life She moved from Florence to New York City at age nineteen to work for her uncle, the fashion designer Emilio Pucci, at his boutique within the luxury department store Saks Fifth Avenue. In 1970 she and Count Hugues de Montalembert were married in Florence; the couple divorced in 1979.
