Maria Angela Ardinghelli
Maria Angela Ardinghelli (1730–1825) was an Italian translator, mathematician, physicist and noble, mostly known as the Italian translator of the works of Stephen Hales, a Newtonian physiologist. She translated two of his works; ''Haemastaticks'' and ''Vegetable Staticks''. Aside from Ardinghelli's historical invisibility, she managed to remain relevant without being shunned into social isolation or derision by sharing her works with specific audiences. Background Maria Angela Ardinghelli was born in Naples ( Kingdom of Naples) into a noble family of Florentine origin. Having lost her brother during their childhood, Maria Angela thus became an only child. Her father turned to educating her, and by the age of fourteen she was fluent in Latin. Jean-Jacques Caffieri
Jean-Jacques Caffieri (29 April 1725 – 22 June 1792) was a French sculptor. He was appointed ''sculpteur du Roi'' to Louis XV and later afforded lodgings in the Galeries du Louvre. He designed the fine ''rampe d'escalier'' which still adorns the Palais Royal. He is better known for his portrait busts, in terracotta or marble: his bust of Madame du Barry is at the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. He made a name with his busts of Pierre Corneille and Jean Racine for the foyer of the Comédie Française. Life He was born in Paris and came from a family of sculptors from Italy, who had moved to France during cardinal Mazarin's regency. Julien Leroy
Julien Le Roy (1686-1759) was a major 18th-century Parisian clockmaker and watchmaker. He was born in Tours in 1686, the scion of four previous generations of clockmakers. By the age of 13, had already made his first clock. In 1699, he moved to Paris for further training. He became ''maître horloger'' in 1713 and later ''juré'' of his guild. Further appointments followed, including the Directorship of the ''Société des Arts'', but the pinnacle of his achievement was being appointed clockmaker (''Horloger Ordinaire du Roi'') to King Louis XV in 1739. He carried on his business from premises in the Rue du Harlay until his death in 1759.
