Mari Leppänen
Mari Inka-Elina Leppänen ( Pentikäinen, born 26 September 1978 in Helsinki, Finland) is a Finnish theologian and the Bishop to the Archdiocese of Turku, together with the Archbishop Tapio Luoma, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. Career Leppänen studied theology and folkloristics at the University of Helsinki. She was ordained priest in Turku in 2012 by archbishop Kari Mäkinen. Leppänen was the first ordained woman of the Conservative Laestadianism branch of the Lutheran Church of Finland. Leppänen served as a parish priest in Lieto 2012–2014, worked as a project manager at the Office of the Church Council in 2014, and served as an advisor to the previous assistant bishop in Turku, Kaarlo Kalliala 2015–2017. From 2018 to 2021 Leppänen was the Dean of the Archdiocese of Turku. The Archdiocese of Turku ( fi, Turun arkkihiippakunta, sv, Åbo ärkestift), historically known as '' Archdiocese of Åbo'', is the seat of the Archbishop of Turku. It is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, and its see city is Turku. The Archbishop has many administrative tasks relating to the National church, and is the Metropolitan and Primate of the church. In common with other Lutheran and Anglican churches the Archbishop is considered '' primus inter pares'' while all diocesan bishops retain their independence within their respective jurisdictions. Turku Cathedral ( fi, Turun tuomiokirkko, sv, Åbo domkyrka) is the only medieval basilica in Finland and the Mother Church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. It is the central church of the Lutheran Archdiocese of Turku and the seat of the Lutheran Archbishop of Finland, Tapio Luoma. It is also regarded as one of the major records of Finnish architectural history. Juha Pentikäinen (born 1940) is a Finnish professor in the Department of Comparative Religion at the University of Helsinki. With a field-work oriented approach to the study of religious traditions he is especially interested in the oral history of languages, religions and cultures. Research He has research interests in religious traditions in the Finnish culture, and their psychological effects on humans.
