Marguerite Viel
Marguerite Viel (1894-1976) was a French filmmaker who was active during the late 1920s and 1930s. She wrote and directed several films, including ''Occupe-toi d’Amélie'' (1932) and ''La banque Nemo'' (1934). Viel was also a frequent collaborator of Jean Epstein, lending financial support to many of Epstein's films. Viel worked as a dialogue writer and sound editor during the first years of sound film. Erich Oswald Hans Carl Maria von Stroheim (born Erich Oswald Stroheim; September 22, 1885 – May 12, 1957) was an Austrian-American director, actor and producer, most noted as a film star and avant-garde, visionary director of the silent era. His 1924 film ''Greed'' (an adaptation of Frank Norris's 1899 novel ''McTeague'') is considered one of the finest and most important films ever made. After clashes with Hollywood studio bosses over budget and workers' rights problems, Stroheim found it difficult to find work as a director and subsequently became a well-respected character actor, particularly in French cinema. Walter Ruttmann (28 December 1887 – 15 July 1941) was a German cinematographer and film director, an important German abstract experimental film maker, along with Hans Richter, Viking Eggeling and Oskar Fischinger. He is best known for directing the semi- documentary 'city symphony' silent film, with orchestral score by Edmund Meisel, in 1927, '' Berlin: Symphony of a Metropolis''. His audio montage ''Wochenende (Weekend)'' (1930) is considered a major contribution in the development of audio plays. Jean Epstein
Jean Epstein (; 25 March 1897 – 2 April 1953) was a French filmmaker, film theorist, literary critic, and novelist. Although he is remembered today primarily for his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's ''The Fall of the House of Usher'', he directed three dozen films and was an influential critic of literature and film from the early 1920s through the late 1940s. He is often associated with French Impressionist Cinema and the concept of ''photogénie''. Gustav Machatý (9 May 1901 – 13 December 1963) was a Czech film director, screenwriter and actor. He directed films in Czechoslovakia, USA and Germany including '' Erotikon'' and '' Ecstasy''. ''Erotikon'' is a 1929 silent erotic melodrama film by Czech director Gustav Machatý based on a screenplay by Vítězslav Nezval. Production The shooting started in November 1928.
