Marguerite LeWars
Marguerite LeWars (born 1938 in Kingston) is a Jamaican former beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Jamaica in 1961. While serving in that capacity, she played the role of Dr. No's photographer, Annabel Chung, in the first James Bond film '' Dr. No'', in 1962. Early life She was born in Kingston, Jamaica, as Marguerite LeWars. She now uses the surname Gordon taken from her second husband. Her father was Russell LeWars,the Government Town Clerk, and her mother a housewife. She is a former Miss Jamaica. She represented Jamaica in Miss Universe in Miami. Career Her only screen role was in '' Dr. No'' and it was a matter of chance; the production crew of ''Dr. No'' encountered her at Kingston airport as they were preparing for filming. Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. Michael Manley
Michael Norman Manley (10 December 1924 – 6 March 1997) was a Jamaican politician who served as the fourth Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1972 to 1980 and from 1989 to 1992. Manley championed a democratic socialist program, and has been described as a populist. According to opinion polls, he remains one of Jamaica's most popular prime ministers. Early life Michael Manley was the second son of premier Norman Washington Manley and artist Edna Manley. He studied at Jamaica College between 1935 and 1943. He attended the Antigua State College and then served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. In 1945, he enrolled at the London School of Economics. At the LSE, he was influenced by Fabian socialism and the writings of Harold Laski. Cricket West Indies (CWI) is the governing body for cricket in the West Indies (a sporting confederation of over a dozen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and dependencies that once formed the British West Indies). It was originally formed in the early 1920s as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control, but changed its name to West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in 1996. Ken Gordon
Kenneth Gordon (born 1930) is a Trinidadian businessman and former politician. Biography After attending Saint Mary's College in Port of Spain, Trinidad, he went away to the United States and United Kingdom for further studies. He entered broadcasting in 1949 as a radio announcer for Radio Trinidad. He later became chairman of a conglomerate. In 1986 he was appointed a Minister of Tourism under the National Alliance for Reconstruction as a senator. He married three times, his present wife being Marguerite Gordon. He has four children. He was instrumental in introducing the first private television station in the English Caribbean, CCN TV6, and Prime Radio, which is owned by Trinidad and Tobago Express Newspapers Limited, in 1991. Miss Universe Jamaica (formerly Miss Jamaica Universe) is a beauty pageant that selects the contestant to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe beauty pageant. History Although Jamaica started competing at the Miss Universe Pageant in 1961, the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant officially started in 1982 and was organised by Ed Wallace to select the official representative. This was won by Nancy Martin who was slated to compete at the Miss Universe pageant, but was unable to do so. The contest was again held from 1986 to 1988, and in 1989 Pulse was asked to host the Jamaica preliminary to Miss Universe. They went on to post an outstanding record, producing 4 top 10 finalists (Sandra Foster, Kimberley Mais, Nicole Haughton and Christine Straw) at the international Pageant.
