Prior to September 1959, Playmates were not asked to complete data sheets. January Margie Harrison was an American actress and model. She was Playmate of the Month for both January 1954 and June 1954. While Marilyn Monroe preceded her as a ''Playboy'' "Sweetheart of the Month", Monroe did not appear in the center pages, but was pictured on pages 16 to 18. Harrison is therefore the first model designated "Playmate of the Month". Like Monroe, her photo was purchased from the John Baumgarth Company, which specialized in pin-up calendars. Carlyle Blackwell (January 20, 1884 – June 17, 1955) was an American silent film actor, director and producer. Early years Blackwell was born in Troy, Pennsylvania. He studied at Cornell University before J. Stewart Blackton discovered him and turned his interest to acting. Career He made his film debut in the 1910 Vitagraph Studios production of ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' directed by J. Stuart Blackton. Between then and 1930, when talkies ended his acting career, he appeared in more than 180 films. The centerfold or centrefold of a magazine is the inner pages of the middle sheet, usually containing a portrait, such as a pin-up or a nude. The term can also refer to the model featured in the portrait. In saddle-stitched magazines (as opposed to those that are perfect-bound), the centerfold does not have any blank space cutting through the image. The term was coined by Hugh Hefner, founder of ''Playboy'' magazine. The success of the 1953 first issue of ''Playboy'' has been attributed in large part to its centerfold: a nude of Marilyn Monroe. The advent of monthly centerfolds gave the pin-up a new respectability, and helped to sanitize the notion of "sexiness".
