Margaret Clarke (artist)
Margaret Clarke RHA (née Crilley; 1 August 1884 – 31 October 1961) was an Irish portrait painter. Life Margaret Crilley was born in Newry, County Down, Ireland, on 1 August 1884, one of six children of Patrick Crilley. Her date of birth is often given as 29 July 1888, though local records do not support this, suggesting she was born four years earlier. Having initially trained at Newry technical school with her sister Mary intending to become a teacher, in 1905, Margaret won a scholarship to attend the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. There she studied under William Orpen, who regarded her as one of his most promising students. She completed her studies in 1911 attaining an Art Teacher's Certificate, and began working as Orpen's assistant. Margaret Turner Clarke
Margaret Turner Clarke (; 1836-8 – August 1887) was an Australian nurse and philanthropist. She was a pioneer within nursing in Australia. A student of the Florence Nightingale School for Nurses, she was the founder of the Visiting Relief Society (for health care in the gold fields) in 1865, and a co-founder of the pioneer nursing education Home and Training School for Nurses in Sydney (1882). Early life and education Clarke was born in Tasmania, one of eight children of Charles McLachlan, a merchant in Hobart and a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council, and his wife Isabella, née Dick. Charles McLachlan's work took him to Britain during Margaret's childhood, and she was educated in England, becoming proficient on the harp. The 1959 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship was the high point of the 1959 camogie season. The championship was won by Dublin GAA#Camogie, Dublin who defeated surprise finalists Mayo GAA#Camogie, Mayo by a 33-point margin in one of the most one-sided finals in camogie history. The match drew an attendance of 4,000. The championship was the first to have a match televised, when a BBC television crew covered the All-Ireland semi-final between Antrim and Dublin in Belfast. Marjorie J. "Maggie" Clarke is an American environmental scientist who specializes in recycling participation, waste prevention methods, waste-to-energy/incinerator emissions controls, environmental impacts of the World Trade Center fires and collapse, and community botanical gardening. Since the September 11, 2001 attacks she has focused on increasing participation in New York City's waste prevention and recycling programs. Early life and education She was born on July 14, 1953, in Miami, Florida. She graduated in 1975 with a B.A. in geology from Smith College. She received an M.S. in environmental science from Johns Hopkins University in 1978 and in energy technology from New York University in 1982. She completed a Ph.D. in 2000 for environmental sciences.
