Margaret Ashcroft
Margaret Ashcroft (16 February 1931 – 25 October 2016) was a British television actress. She played the role of Margaret Castleton in the ITV series ''The Main Chance'' between 1969 and 1975 and the role of Gwen Riley in '' The Brothers'' between 1974 and 1976. In 1953, Ashcroft married British actor Morris Perry, and they remained married until her death in 2016. She was survived by Perry and their four children. Chelsea, London
Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames and for postal purposes is part of the south-western postal area. Chelsea historically formed a manor and parish in the Ossulstone hundred of Middlesex, which became the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea in 1900. It merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Kensington, forming the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea upon the creation of Greater London in 1965. The exclusivity of Chelsea as a result of its high property prices historically resulted in the coining of the term "Sloane Ranger" in the 1970s to describe some of its residents, and some of those of nearby areas. ''Armchair Theatre'' is a British television drama anthology series of single plays that ran on the ITV network from 1956 to 1974. It was originally produced by ABC Weekend TV. Its successor Thames Television took over from mid-1968. The Canadian-born producer Sydney Newman was in charge of ''Armchair Theatre'' between September 1958 and December 1962, during what is generally considered to have been its best era, and produced 152 episodes. History Intent ''Armchair Theatre'' filled a Sunday-evening slot on ITV, Britain's only commercial network at the time, in which contemporary dramas were the most common form, though this was not immediately apparent. ''Doomwatch'' is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC, which ran on BBC1 between 1970 and 1972. The series was set in the then present day, and dealt with a scientific government agency led by Doctor Spencer Quist (played by John Paul), responsible for investigating and combating various ecological and technological dangers. The series was followed by a film adaptation produced by Tigon British Film Productions and released in 1972, and a revival TV film was broadcast on Channel 5 in 1999. Background The programme was created by Gerry Davis and Kit Pedler, who had previously collaborated on scripts for ''Doctor Who'', a programme on which, for a time during the late 1960s, Davis had been the story editor and Pedler the unofficial scientific adviser. Van Der Valk (1972 TV Series)
''Van der Valk'' is a British television crime drama series produced for the ITV network. The first series ran from 1972 to 1992; followed by a remake in 2020. Created by Nicolas Freeling and based on his novels about a detective in Amsterdam, Barry Foster played the titular character, Simon "Piet" van der Valk, in the original series. The updated version was created and written by Chris Murray, with Marc Warren reviving the van der Valk role.
