Marcus Picken
Marcus Picken (born 9 October 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Picken is the son of former Collingwood star Billy Picken, older brother of former Western Bulldogs player Liam Picken, and cousin of former teammate and Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown. Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels, he made his debut in 1998 after being selected by Brisbane in the 1997 AFL draft but was unable to make an impact in his limited opportunities. Picken played in eight of the first nine rounds of the 2001 AFL season before suffering a stress fracture in his foot which cost him a chance at a premiership. Picken was traded in the 2001 draft, together with Shannon Rusca, to the Western Bulldogs in return for draft pick 49. North Ballarat Rebels
The Greater Western Victoria Rebels is an Australian rules football club which plays in the NAB League, the statewide under-18s competition in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. Initially known as the Ballarat Rebels and wearing green and gold, the team was established in 1993 as one of four regional under-18s clubs, set up as part of a plan by the AFL Commission to have clubs set in all regions of the state of Victoria. The club became affiliated with the new Victorian Football League, VFL's North Ballarat Football Club in 1996, and changed its name to North Ballarat Rebels and its colours to black and white to reflect this. In January 2017, the club again changed its name to Greater Western Victoria Rebels to reflect their expanded recruitment zone. The 2001 AFL season was the 105th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. In the Australian Football League (AFL), previously the Victorian Football League (VFL), the pre-season competition, known during its history by a variety of sponsored names and most recently as the NAB Cup, was an annual Australian rules football tournament held amongst clubs prior to the premiership season between 1988 and 2013. Shannon Rusca is a former professional Australian rules football player. Early life Rusca began playing senior Australian Football with Southern Districts in the Northern Territory Football League. AFL career He was listed on the rookie list by the Brisbane Lions in 2000 before being elevated during the season. During the 2000 AFL season he played two matches. Rusca was traded to the Western Bulldogs for selection 49 in the 2001 AFL Draft. He did not play a senior match for the Bulldogs. The 2001 AFL draft consisted of a state draft, a body draft, a pre-season draft and a trade period. The AFL draft is the annual draft of players by Australian rules football teams that participate in the main competition of that sport, the Australian Football League (AFL). Liam Picken
Liam Picken (born 1 August 1986) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2009 to 2017. In 2016 he played in the Bulldogs' premiership team (the club's first since 1954). He was from the western Victorian town of Hamilton. Early playing career Before being drafted he completed a pre-season with Collingwood and two with the Bulldogs. Billy Picken
William Robert Picken (7 June 1956 – 23 July 2022) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club and the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Picken was still at school when he arrived at Collingwood in 1974 from Macarthur as a forward, but he developed into a talented centre-half back. Despite playing in four losing grand finals, Picken maintained his reputation as a finals performer and was recognised for his contributions when he was named in the Collingwood Team of the Century.
