Marco Visconti (novel)
''Marco Visconti'' is an 1834 historical novel, historical adventure novel by the Italian writer Tommaso Grossi. It is set in the Duchy of Milan in the fourteenth century. Part of the patriotic cultural revival that led to the Risorgimento, Grossi dedicated the work to the Italian nationalism, Italian Nationalist Giuseppe Mazzini. Adaptations In 1925 it was turned into a silent film ''Marco Visconti (1925 film), Marco Visconti'' directed by Aldo De Benedetti and in 1941 a sound film ''Marco Visconti (1941 film), Marco Visconti'' by Mario Bonnard with Carlo Ninchi in the title role.Goble p.858 In 1975 Raf Vallone played Visconti in a RAI television series ''Marco Visconti (TV series), Marco Visconti''. Tommaso Grossi
Tommaso Grossi (20 January 179110 December 1853) was an Italian poet and novelist. Biography Grossi was born in Bellano, on Lake Como, and graduated in law at University of Pavia in 1810. He then went to Milan to exercise his profession but the Austrian government interfered with his career prospects. Consequently, Grossi was a notary all his life. That the suspicion was well grounded he soon showed by writing the battle poem ''La Prineide'' (1814) in Milanese, in which he described with vivid colours the tragical death of Giuseppe Prina, chief treasurer during the Empire, whom the people of Milan, instigated by Austrian agitators, had torn to pieces and dragged through the streets of the town (1814). Mario Bonnard
Mario Bonnard (24 December 1889 – 22 March 1965) was an Italian actor and film director. Bonnard was born and died in Rome. He began his cinematic career as an actor becoming a popular romantic lead in numerous silent films made before World War I. In 1917 he ventured into film directing for the first time. Before the arrival of sound films he worked for a period in Germany in films directed by Luis Trenker. Back in Italy in 1932, he became a prolific director working with the major stars of the time as: Assia Noris, Elsa Merlini, Amedeo Nazzari, Luisa Ferida, Henry Viarisio. ''Il feroce Saladino'' (1937) was the most popular of his films of the 1930s. During the war he continued to work. In the post World War II period his films, ranging from comedies to period dramas enjoyed much success. However, today he's no longer well known. Errico Petrella
Errico Petrella (10 December 18137 April 1877) was an Italian opera composer. Life and career Petrella was born at Palermo, capital of the Kingdom of Sicily. A conservative of the Neapolitan school, he was the most successful Italian composer, second only to Verdi, during the 1850s and 1860s. He also earned the latter's scorn for his compositional and dramatic crudities, which nonetheless played well on the stage. Petrella was a popular composer in his day, both of opera buffa and more serious work. His best opera, '' Jone'', has considerable melodramatic force and vitality, and Petrella's melodic style, though old-fashioned in comparison with Verdi's operas of the 1850s, is still appealing. None of his early works, premiered between December 1829 and 1839, were particularly successful. Raf Vallone
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force.
