Marco Ghiani
Marco Ghiani is a flat racing jockey, who was 2021 British flat racing Champion Apprentice. He is the retained rider for leisure tycoon Peter Harris. He started out riding for Luca Cumani in 2017, but joined the stable of Stuart Williams as apprentice when Cumani retired. He had his first race rides in 2018, getting 1 second and 3 thirds from in 11 rides. Then, in 2019, he had his first winner, ending the season with 22 wins from 131 races. In 2020, it was 19 from 204. In 2021, he became Champion Apprentice, topping 100 winners for the year and winning nearly £900,000 in prize money. During the season, he rode out his apprentice claim on 1 July 2021, winning on the Hugo Palmer-trained Surprise Picture. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100-120 lb., and physically fit. They are typically self-employed and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer and a percentage of the horse's winnings. Jockeys are mainly male, though there are some well-known female jockeys too. The job has a very high risk of debilitating or life-threatening injuries. Newcastle Racecourse
Newcastle Racecourse is a horse racing course located at Gosforth Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, owned by Arena Racing Company. It stages both flat and National Hunt racing, with its biggest meeting being the Northumberland Plate held annually in June. History Horseracing began in the North East over 350 years ago, beginning in Killingworth in the early 17th century. A King's Plate for 5 year olds, run in 3 mile heats was instigated by George II in 1753. The Town Moor hosted the first recorded Northumberland Plate in 1833 and did so until 1881 when the race transferred to High Gosforth Park. 1882 saw the first running of the Plate at Gosforth Park with a new flat and chase course, new stand and stabling for 100 horses. Haydock Sprint Cup
The Sprint Cup is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Haydock Park over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early September. History The event was established in 1966, and it was originally open to horses aged two or older. It was devised by Robert Sangster, the heir to the Vernons Pools business, who later became a leading racehorse owner/breeder. During the early part of its history the race was sponsored by Vernons and held in early November. It was initially contested on a course with a sharp left-hand bend. Prix De Meautry
The Prix de Meautry is a Group 3 flat horse race in France open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 1,200 metres (about 6 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in August. History The event is named after Haras de Meautry, a successful stud farm located near Deauville. It was established in 1877, and was initially contested over 900 metres. It was extended to 1,000 metres in 1887. The race was abandoned throughout World War I, with no running from 1914 to 1918. A new distance of 1,200 metres was introduced in 1922. Deauville Racecourse was closed during World War II, and the Prix de Meautry was cancelled in 1940. Prix Moonlight Cloud
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. Jane Chapple-Hyam
Jane Chapple-Hyam (born October 1966) is an Australian-British racehorse trainer based in Newmarket. She trains horses to run on the flat and saddled her first Group 1 winner in September 2021. Background Chapple-Hyam was born Jane Peacock in Melbourne, Australia. Her parents were Susan Rossiter and politician Andrew Peacock. Chapple-Hyam was involved with racing from an early age; her father was the owner of Leilani, winner of the 1974 Caulfield Cup. She attended Geelong Grammar School and did work experience with trainer Colin Hayes.
