Marco Fusi (violinist)
Marco Fusi is an Italian violinist, violist and viola d'amore player. Biography Fusi is best known as an interpreter of contemporary classical music. His repertoire encompasses modern and contemporary works for solo instrument, instrument and live electronics, and instrument and ensemble. Fusi graduated in violin performance (MA, 2003) and composition (MA, 2007) from the Milan Conservatory, and continued with his doctoral studies at the of Ghent and at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. His artistic research focuses on the role of the interpreter in contemporary music, the composer-performer creative collaboration, and the impact of musical instruments in the creation of new musical works. As a violinist, Fusi has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy from 2007 till 2011, working with Pierre Boulez, Alan Gilbert (conductor), Alan Gilbert, Péter Eötvös and Susanna Mälkki. Violin
The violin, sometimes known as a ''fiddle'', is a wooden chordophone (string instrument) in the violin family. Most violins have a hollow wooden body. It is the smallest and thus highest-pitched instrument (soprano) in the family in regular use. The violin typically has four strings (music), strings (some can have five-string violin, five), usually tuned in perfect fifths with notes G3, D4, A4, E5, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow (music), bow across its strings. Luigi Nono
Luigi Nono (; 29 January 1924 – 8 May 1990) was an Italian avant-garde composer of classical music. Biography Early years Nono, born in Venice, was a member of a wealthy artistic family; his grandfather was a notable painter. Nono began music lessons with Gian Francesco Malipiero at the Venice Conservatory in 1941, where he acquired knowledge of the Renaissance madrigal tradition, amongst other styles. After graduating with a degree in law from the University of Padua, he was given encouragement in composition by Bruno Maderna. Through Maderna, he became acquainted with Hermann Scherchen—then Maderna's conducting teacher—who gave Nono further tutelage and was an early mentor and advocate of his music. Christopher Trapani
Christopher Trapani is an American/Italian composer of contemporary classical music. In 2007 he won the Gaudeamus Award of the Dutch Gaudeamus Foundation. A CD of his music, ''Waterlines'', was released in 2018. A second release of Waterlines by the Ictus Ensemble was named one of the top 5 classical releases of 2020 by '' De Standaard''. In 2021–2022 he was a visiting assistant professor at the Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California. Sylvain Cambreling (born 2 July 1948 in Amiens, France) is a French conductor. Biography Trained as a trombone player, Cambreling studied at the Paris Conservatoire. He joined l' Orchestre Symphonique de Lyon (OSL) as a trombonist in 1971. In 1974, he took second prize in the International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors. His conducting debut was with the OSL in 1975, leading Robert Schumann's ''Scenes from Goethe's Faust''. Johannes Kalitzke
Johannes Kalitzke (born 12 February 1959) is a German composer and conductor. After studying in Cologne and at the IRCAM in Paris, he was chief conductor at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen for several years, then led the ensemble musikFabrik and composed operas on commissions in Germany and Austria. He has been Professor of Conducting (Contemporary Music) at the Salzburg Mozarteum from 2015.
