''Women Without Hope'' (French: ''Marchandes d'illusions'') is a 1954 French crime drama film directed by Raoul André and starring Gisèle Pascal, Philippe Lemaire and Louise Carletti. Rège p.16 It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Louis Le Barbenchon. It is also known by the alternative title ''Nights of Shame''. Synopsis Two prostitutes are in love with men, a painter and his best friend, who do not know about their backgrounds. When a fellow prostitute is murdered, they remain silent for fear that testifying will reveal their real employment to their boyfriends. Gina Manès (born Blanche Moulin; 7 April 1893 – 6 September 1989) was a French film actress and a major star of French silent cinema. After an early appearance in a Louis Feuillade film, she had significant roles in films of Germaine Dulac and Jean Epstein, including ''Cœur fidèle''. Career In Abel Gance's ''Napoléon (1927 film), Napoléon'', she took the part of Joséphine de Beauharnais, and then played the title role in Jacques Feyder's ''Thérèse Raquin (1928 film), Thérèse Raquin''. She made the transition to sound films but during the 1930s her popularity faded, and periods of residence in Morocco took her further from the public eye. She continued to take small roles in films, and also worked in the circus and in the theatre. Nicole Marie Jeanne Andrieu (21 October 1931 – 25 June 2016), better known as Nicole Courcel, was a French actress who achieved popularity through the 1950s and 1960s, though she is mostly unknown outside of France. Born in Saint-Cloud, in the western suburbs of Paris, she appeared in more than 40 films between 1947 and 1979. After working as an extra in a few films, she won a major role in ''Rendez-vous de juillet'' (1949), with Brigitte Auber. In 1970 she turned to television, appearing in different television films and miniseries, in which she continued to work until 2004. Raymond Pellegrin (1 January 1925 – 14 October 2007) was a French actor. Born in Nice, Pellegrin made his screen debut in the 1945 French feature '' Naïs''. He was also famous in France for dubbing Jean Marais for the voice of Fantômas in the eponymous film trilogy. He married actress Dora Doll on 12 July 1949; the couple had a daughter named Danielle, and divorced in 1955. He married actress Gisèle Pascal on 8 October 1955; on 12 September 1962, the couple had a daughter, Pascale Pellegrin, now also an actress.
