Marchais, Aisne
Marchais () is a commune in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. It takes its name from the Latin 'mercasius' or marshland. The 16th century Chateau de Marchais is a private residence of the Princes of Monaco, since being acquired in 1854 by Charles III. Charles III (Charles Honoré Grimaldi; 8 December 1818 – 10 September 1889) was Prince of Monaco and Duke of Valentinois from 20 June 1856 to his death.
