Marcellus Laroon The Elder
Marcellus Laroon or Lauron, the elder (1653–1702) was a Dutch-born painter and engraver, active in England. He provided the drawings for the popular series of prints "The Cries of London". Life He was born at The Hague, the son of Marcellus Lauron, a painter of French extraction who settled in the Netherlands. He began his artistic education with his father, who took him to be taken to England at an early age. According to brief biographies by Horace Walpole and Bainbrigg Buckeridge he was taught by one "La Zoon" before studying under one of the Flessiers, a family of Dutch painters and framemakers working in London in the mid-17th century. He spent several years in Yorkshire, and later told George Vertue that he had seen Rembrandt at Kingston upon Hull in 1661. Dutch Golden Age painting is the painting of the Dutch Golden Age, a period in Dutch history roughly spanning the 17th century, during and after the later part of the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) for Dutch independence. The new Dutch Republic was the most prosperous nation in Europe and led European trade, science, and art. The northern Netherlandish provinces that made up the new state had traditionally been less important artistic centres than cities in Flanders in the south. The upheavals and large-scale transfers of population of the war, and the sharp break with the old monarchist and Catholic cultural traditions, meant that Dutch art had to reinvent itself almost entirely, a task in which it was very largely successful. Marcellus Laroon The Younger
Marcellus Laroon the Younger (2 April 1679 – 1 June 1772) was an English painter and draughtsman of French origin. He specialized in social genre scenes, and he frequented the world of actors and painters around Covent Garden in London that he painted. George Vertue, a contemporary who knew him well, said he painted for pleasure rather than profit.Tate Laroon was born in Chiswick, Middlesex. His father Marcellus Laroon was a Dutch-born painter and engraver, with a French artist father called Marcellus Lauron. Laroon the Elder brought his son to England whilst a child, and his career was entirely in England. In 1707 he enlisted in the army, participating in campaigns in Flanders, Spain and Scotland. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease usually caused by '' Mycobacterium tuberculosis'' (MTB) bacteria. Tuberculosis generally affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body. Most infections show no symptoms, in which case it is known as latent tuberculosis. Around 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kill about half of those affected.
