Frank Marcellus Boyce
Frank Marcellus Boyce (August 3, 1851 – 1931) was an American physician and politician from New York. Life He was born on August 3, 1851, in Schodack, Rensselaer County, New York, the son of Anson Mead Boyce (1828–1878) and Caroline (Stewart) Boyce (1833–1889). He attended the public schools in Saratoga Springs. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1872, was licensed to practice medicine by the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1873, and practiced medicine in Saratoga Springs. On February 5, 1874, he married Kate Payne (1852–1889), and they had three children. He was Coroner of Saratoga County from 1878 to 1881; a trustee of the Village of Saratoga Springs from 1881 to 1888; Supervisor of the Town of Saratoga Springs in 1889; and a member of the New York State Assembly (Saratoga Co., 2nd D.) in 1890. Marcellus Emants (12 August 1848 – 14 October 1923) was a Dutch novelist whose work is considered one of the few examples of Dutch Naturalism. His writing is seen as a first step towards the renewing force of the Tachtigers towards modern Dutch literature, a movement which started around the 1880s. Marcellus Gilmore Edson (February 7, 1849 – March 6, 1940) was a Canadian chemist and pharmacist. In 1884, he patented a way to make peanut paste, an early version of peanut butter. Biography Marcellus Gilmore Edson was born at Bedford in Quebec. Edson promoted the idea of peanut paste as a delicious and nutritious foodstuff for people who could hardly chew solid food, a common state in those days. In 1884 Edson was awarded United States Patent No. 306727 for the invention. His cooled product had "a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment", according to his patent application. Marcellus Douglass
Colonel Marcellus Douglass was a Confederate Army officer and commander of the 13th Georgia Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. Douglass was born in Thomaston, Georgia, October 5, 1830. After graduation from the University of Georgia, he practiced law in Cuthbert, Georgia. On June 19, 1861, he was commissioned captain of Company E, 13th Georgia. He was promoted to Lt. Colonel July 8, 1861, and to full Colonel February 1, 1862. Douglass was killed at the battle of Antietam while commanding Alexander Lawton, Lawton's brigade south of the section of the battle known as the Miller's Cornfield, Cornfield on September 17, 1862. Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (September 18, 1844 – January 13, 1934) was an American artist, mainly known for his series of paintings ''Dogs Playing Poker''. Known as "Cash" or "Kash" in his family, he often signed his work in the 19th century with the latter spelling, sometimes spelling his name, for comic effect, as Kash Koolidge.
