Marcelle Chaumont
Marcelle Chaumont (born 1891, Eymoutiers, Haute-Vienne; died 1990, Paris) was a French fashion designer. Chaumont moved to Paris after World War I and became the head seamstress for Jeanne Lanvin and Madeleine Vionnet. Marcelle Chaumont created her fashion house in the late 1930s but World War II and health problems forced her to stop working. Her clients included Gloria Guinness who was voted 'Best Dressed Woman' by Time magazine in 1962. Some of Chaumont's creations can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York The house of Marcelle Chaumont closed in 1953. Eymoutiers
Eymoutiers () is a Communes of France, commune in the Haute-Vienne Departments of France, department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regions of France, region in western France. Inhabitants are known as ''Pelauds'' in French. History The foundation of Eymoutiers can be traced back to a church and a monastery associated with Saint Psalmodius (''Psalmet''), who had been a hermit in this area. A native of either Ireland or Scotland, Psalmodius became a hermit in a small cell in the forest of Grigeas or Grie, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine near Eymoutiers. Madeleine Chapsal (born 1 September 1925, Paris, France) is a French author and the daughter of Robert Chapsal, son of the politician Fernand Chapsal, and of Marcelle Chaumont, who made dresses for Madeleine Vionnet. She married the French journalist and politician Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber in 1947 with whom she participated to the creation the news magazine '' L'Express''. Fernand Chapsal
Fernand Chapsal (10 March 1862 – 10 February 1939) was a French lawyer, administrator and politician who was Minister of Commerce in 1926 and in 1937–38, and Minister of Agriculture in 1938. Early years Fernand Chapsal was born on 10 March 1862 in Limoges, Haute-Vienne. His family moved to Saintes, Charente-Maritime when his father was appointed principal of the college there. Chapsal obtained his secondary education in the Saintes college, then studied at the Faculty of Paris and became a Doctor of Law. Soon after he was appointed to the Audit Court of the Council of State. He was in turn an Auditor, Master of Requests and Deputy-Commissioner to the Government for litigation. He published a treatise of the procedure before the Prefecture Councils. Chapsal was chief of staff of Louis Ricard, Minister of Justice in 1892 and 1898, and of Georges Trouillot, Minister of the Colonies in 1898.
