Marcelius Haga
Marcelius Haga (29 September 1882 – 2 December 1968) was a Norwegian politician. Born in Høyland, he graduated from the Stord Teacher's College in 1902. He then worked as a teacher for four years before enrolling at the Norwegian College of Agriculture. He graduated there in 1908, and worked as a research fellow the following year. He then worked as a school teacher and manager as well as farmer the rest of his professional life, including two years at the Teacher's College at Notodden (today a part of Telemark University College). Settling in Nes, Buskerud, Marcelius Haga served as mayor from 1919 to 1934. From 1928 to 1931 he was also the chairman of Buskerud county council. He also served as a deputy representative for the Liberal Party to the Parliament of Norway from 1937, representing Buskerud county. Høyland
Høyland is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The municipality was located at the innermost end of the Gandsfjorden in the western part of the present-day municipality of Sandnes. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1965. The main church for the municipality was Høyland Church. History The Prestegjeld, parish of ''Høiland'' was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 2,286. On 6 April 1861, the large village of Sandnes (population: 440) was declared to be a ladested (seaport town). It was therefore separated from Høyland to constitute a municipality of its own. The split left Høyland with 3,376 inhabitants. The purge in Norway after World War II was a purge that took place between May 1945 and August 1948 against anyone who was deemed to have collaborated with the German occupation of the country. Several thousand Norwegians and foreign citizens were tried and convicted for crimes committed in Scandinavia during the Second World War. However, the scope, legal basis, and fairness of these trials has since been a matter of some debate. A total of 40 people—including Vidkun Quisling, the Prime Minister of Norway during the occupation—were executed after capital punishment was reinstated in Norway. Thirty-seven of those executed were executed under Norwegian law, while the other three were executed under Allied military law.
