Marcel Deleeuw
Marcel Deleeuw was a football player in the Canadian Football League for three years, mostly serving as a punter. After playing junior football for the Edmonton Wildcats, Marcel Deleeuw joined the Edmonton Eskimos in 1964 as their regular punter, replacing Aubrey Linne Aubrey Linne (born April 19, 1939) was a tight end in the National Football League and Canadian Football League from 1961 to 1963. After playing college football at Texas Christian University, Aubrey Linne joined the Baltimore Colts in 1961 but .... Deleeuw punted for a 38.0 average and no single point. However, the following year he was replaced as the punter and mostly served as a punt returner. He only came back in 1971 as the punter of the Ottawa Rough Riders when his average increased to 42.5 yards per punt. However, he did not play another season. Punter (football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting. Skills and usage The purpose of the punt is to force the team that is receiving the kick to start as far as possible from the kicking team's end zone. A return specialist or kick returner is a player on the special teams unit of a gridiron football team who specializes in returning punts and kickoffs. There are few players who are exclusively return specialists; most also play another position such as wide receiver, defensive back, or running back. In Canadian football, a single (also called a single point, or ''rouge'') is a one-point score that is awarded for certain plays that involve the ball being kicked into the end zone and not returned from it. Rules A single is awarded when the ball is kicked into the end zone by any legal means—other than a convert (successful or not) or a successful field goal—and the receiving team does not return (or kick) the ball out of its end zone.
