Marcel Buysse
Marcel Buysse ( Wontergem, 11 November 1889- Ghent, 3 October 1939) was a Belgian racing cyclist. After finishing fourth in the 1912 Tour de France, Buysse led the general classification for two days until a broken handlebar cost him dearly. Despite winning six stages in the 1913 Tour de France, he could only finish in 3rd place, 3 hours, 30 minutes and 55 seconds behind Philippe Thys. He finished third in the 1919 Giro d'Italia. Marcel was the brother of Jules Buysse and Tour de France-winner Lucien Buysse, and the father of cyclists Norbert Buysse and Albert Buysse. 1913 Tour De France
The 1913 Tour de France was the 11th edition of the Tour de France, taking place between 29 June and 27 July. The total distance was and the average speed of the riders was . The competition was won by the Belgian Philippe Thys, after in the crucial sixth stage Eugène Christophe broke his bicycle and lost several hours because he had to do the repairs by himself. In the last stage, Thys also had mechanical problems, but he got help during the repairs, and only got a penalty of ten minutes. Between 1904 and 1912, the overall classification had been calculated by points, but in 1913 the classification was reverted to the original format from 1903, where the overall classification was calculated by adding up the times of the individual stages. 1914 Tour Of Flanders
The second running of the Tour of Flanders cycling race in Belgium was held on Sunday, 22 March 1914. Belgian Marcel Buysse won the race in a sprint of a seven-strong group on the velodrome of Evergem, part of Ghent.Vanwalleghem, Rik (1991), De Ronde van Vlaanderen, Pinguin, Belgium, , p 16 19 of 47 riders finished. The race started and finished in Ghent. Oscar Egg
Oscar Egg (2 March 1890 – 9 February 1961) was a Swiss track and road bicycle racer. He captured the world hour record three times before the First World War and won major road races and stages of the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia. He was also a noted developer of racing bicycles and bicycle components including lugs and derailleurs. The hour record Between 1907 and 1914 Oscar Egg and Marcel Berthet improved the hour record six times between them. Egg's 1914 mark of 44.247 km then stood until 1933. Egg set all three of his records at the Vélodrome Buffalo in Paris. The track was a 333m outdoor track surfaced with concrete. Six Days Of Ghent
The Six Days of Ghent ( nl, Zesdaagse Vlaanderen-Gent) is a six-day track cycling race held annually in Ghent, Belgium. It takes place in the Kuipke velodrome in Ghent's ''Citadelpark''. The 2006 event from 21 November to 26 November was marred by the death of one of the riders. During the fifth day's racing, Isaac Gálvez of Spain rode into the barrier edging the outside of the track and died on his way to hospital. The event includes the Memorial Patrick Sercu madison, named after the former race director at Ghent and holder of the world record for number of six-day victories, Patrick Sercu, who died in 2019. The 2009 event took place from 24 November to 29 November. A Danish team formed by Alex Rasmussen and his companion Michael Mørkøv won with a 3-point difference.
