Marakwet District
Marakwet District is a defunct administrative district in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Its capital town was Kapsowar. The district had a population of 140.629. Local people are predominantly of the Marakwet tribe. The district was created in 1927 as ''Elgeyo/Marakwet District''. It was split into Marakwet and Keiyo Districts in 1994. In 2010, the two districts were joined again to form Elgeyo-Marakwet County. Many famous Kenyan runners come from Marakwet, most notably Moses Kiptanui, Evans Rutto, Reuben Kosgei, Ezekiel Kemboi and Richard Chelimo. The district has only one local authority, Marakwet county council. Its population is thus same as the district (140,629). The council and district has no population classified as urban (1999 census ). The Marakwet district headquarters was located at the hilly town of Kapsowar. Districts Of Kenya
Sub-counties are the decentralised units through which county governments of Kenya will provide functions and services. Except for the parts which fall under urban areas, sub-counties will coincide with the constituencies created under article 89 of the Constitution of Kenya. Sub-counties will be headed by a sub-county administrator, appointed by a County Public Service Board. Under the former Constitution of Kenya, the Provinces of Kenya were subdivided into a number of districts (''wilaya''). Chesoi
Chesoi is a small town in Elgeyo Marakwet County in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The town hosts the region's historical monuments such as Chorwó Kimikeu, Chesoi Primary School, Chesoi Health Centre, and Chesoi Catholic Parish. Marakwet East Constituency
Marakwet East is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of four constituencies of Elgeyo-Marakwet County Elgeyo-Marakwet County is one of Kenya's 47 counties. Embobut Mosop
Embobut, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (Embobit, Embotut) is one of the administrative wards for the Marakwet East Constituency in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Kenya. The area contains one of two major drainage basins for Elgeyo-Marakwet County, referred to locally as a "water towers". The other water tower in Elgeyo-Marakwet County is Cherangani Hills. Embobut supplies Eldoret town and its environs with water. Collectively the Embobut and Cherangani Hills water towers also supply water to the Kerio River, which flows through the Cheploch Gorge in Baringo to Lake Turkana via the Turkwel Gorge. The Embobut Forest is one of the largest continuous blocks of indigenous forest still remaining in East Africa. As of 6 November 1954, it was gazetted and registered as a protected public forest, by Proclamation Order 26.
