Manx Electric Railway Rolling Stock
This page details the rolling stock on the Manx Electric Railway on the Isle of Man, which is unique insofar as the railway still operates with its original tramcars and trailers, all of which are over one hundred years old, the latest dating from 1906. Save for a fire in 1930 in which several cars and trailers were lost, all of the line's original rolling stock remains extant, though many items have been out of use for a number of years, largely due to the decrease in tourism on the island over the last thirty years. Despite this, members of each class are still represented on site today, though not all are in original form or in regular use. Motors Trailers Others ; ''Bertie'' : a contractors' locomotive used when relays were being undertaken, since moved to UK. ; ''Bungle'' & ''Zippy'' : hired second-hand from Bord na Móna in 2008 and refurbished on-island for further use on the railway, since returned to UK. ; Bonner Wagons : road-rail dual purpose wagons ...

Manx Electric Railway
The Manx Electric Railway ( Manx: ''Raad Yiarn Lectragh Vannin'') is an electric interurban tramway connecting Douglas, Laxey and Ramsey in the Isle of Man. It connects with the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway at its southern terminus at Derby Castle at the northern end of the promenade in Douglas, and with the Snaefell Mountain Railway at Laxey. Many visitors take an excursion on the trams. It is the oldest electric tram line in the world whose original rolling stock is still in service. History The Manx Electric Railway was built by Alexander Bruce, a banker, Frederick Saunderson, a civil engineer and Alfred Jones Lusty, a land owner, who formed the Douglas Bay Estate company to develop land north of Douglas. Construction started in 1893 with the short line from a depot at Derby Castle Depôt in Douglas to Groudle Glen, and regular public services started on 7 September 1893. Anticipating the second stage of the railway (an extension from Groudle to Laxey), the company was known a ...

Manx Electric Trailers 49-54
This article details Trailer Nos. 49 – 54 of the Manx Electric Railway on the Isle of Man. These lightweight trailers were the purchased for the opening to Groudle Glen in 1893 but only No. 49 remains in semi-regular service today. Of note also, is number 51 which was restored to original condition in 1989 including detailing of original fleet name on the end dash panels and lightweight roof. At this time the car was numbered 13 as it would originally have been; in 1893 when it arrived there were no power cars numbered past 3, and so the trailers took consecutive numbering sequence but owing to a subsequent re-think by the operators, trailers were re-numbered commencing after the last power car (33). So it was that the original number 13 was displayed until it reverted to its latter number 51 during management and policy changes in 2001. This trailer is also serviceable but the remaining class members are in storage, with 52 serving as a flatbed wagon. Traditionally this car ...

Manx Electric Trailer 60
Trailer Nos. 60 of the Manx Electric Railway on the Isle of Man, was built as a one-off order in 1896. This trailer has chilled iron wheels making it unique among the fleet; when rounding tight radius curves of which there are many on the line, its wheels make a distinctive shrill ringing noise. It is painted in the short-lived 1957 nationalisation livery of green and white and usually hauled by similarly treated open car No. 16.
