Manuel De La Torre
Manuel Alejandro De la Torre Urbina (born June 13, 1980) is a former Mexican football defender. Career De la Torre began playing football as a defender with Club Universidad Nacional's youth sides. He progressed to Pumas' senior side where he played in the Mexican Primera División until 2004. He signed with Deportivo Toluca F.C. and would win four league titles with the club. In February 2011, he was named a member of Toluca's Hall of Fame. The 2008 Primera División Apertura is the first football tournament of the Mexican Primera División 2008−09 season. The tournament began in August 2008 and was contested by the league's 18 teams. Reigning champion Santos Laguna failed to advance to the final losing 2-1 on a two-leg aggregate (0-0 in the first leg) to eventual champions Toluca in the semifinals, and were unable to defend their title. The team of Toluca would beat Cruz Azul 7-6 in penalties after tying 2-2 on a two-leg aggregate (2-0 in the first leg). This was Toluca's 9th championship, placing them as the third most successful club behind América and Guadalajara. The Clausura 2014 Copa MX Final was the final of the Clausura 2014 Copa MX the fourth edition of the Copa MX under its current format and 71st overall organized by the Mexican Football Federation, the governing body of association football in Mexico. The final is contested in a single leg format between a Liga MX club, UANL and an Ascenso MX club, Oaxaca, which is the first time a Liga MX and Ascenso MX team met in the final. The Copa MX (formerly called Copa Tower Monterrey, Copa Eliminatoria, Copa México and Copa Corona MX (for sponsorship reasons)) was a Mexican football cup competition that was established in 1907. After a lengthy hiatus that began in 1997, it was restored in 2012. On early editions of the cup, it consisted of both professional and amateur stages. It was the first official tournament that included teams from different parts of Mexico and was considered a prestigious tournament, especially during its earlier years of existence. The original purpose of the competition was to determine a national champion, thus distinguishing it from the local league championship. Its format was different from the local leagues as well, as it employed direct elimination and culminated in a final that received much more fanfare than the local leagues.
